He named the bay area he visited Takalina Bay after Chief Joseph Tualatini (1753-1814) of the Yakama Nation who lived near present day downtown Eugene. In 1824 John Wesley Powell journeyed upriver to this same bay area in his Surveys of American Land which mapped much of what we now call Oregon and named it Enceladus after one of his converts who had been baptized there at that time - Elder John Ensign Elam from Springdale, Arkansas Territory (now Tulsa). Oregon became a U.S. state on January 3rd, 1846 when California joined the Union as part Southeastern United States independent from Mexico underPresident Polk’s Proclamation 1083 calling for all “the free states within our limits” to ratify it alone including Oregon which only did so on May 15th 1850 becoming known as The State of Oregon with headquarters at Salem until November 30th 1830 when they moved into Portland because that was then granted City Charter status by Territorial Legislature over objection from Salem Mayor James Halsey who wanted Willamette River frontage along main street opposite temple site since he thought it would be an eyesore – today’s University Bridge across Willamette River marks old boundaries

In 1916, Cascade Manufacturing Company organized a local millinery industry and opened its first factory in downtown Tualatin. By 1925, Cascade Manufacturing Company had become one of the largest manufacturers of women’s clothing in America. In 1927, the City Council designated a park in downtown Tualatin as “Oregon Park” in memory of President Franklin D. Roosevelt who visited Portland earlier that year on his way to inspect General Electric plants across North America.
