Tualatin (pronounced "tuh-wah-lin") is a city in Oregon, United States. The population was 38,717 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Clackamas County and part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Tualatin were fur traders from Canada in 1811 and 1812. They named the site "New Westminster," after their new home province of New Westminster, British Columbia. This land formed what is now known as Pioneer Square neighborhood and remains one of the most important commercial areas in town today. In 1850, Fisk built a small log cabin called Home Place on this land which still stands to this day as one of downtown's earliest structures Fisk also founded what is now Pioneer High School in 1850 and developed it into one of Oregon's leading high schools during the late 19th century In 1862, Jens Jensen started an agricultural store at 514 NNW Second Avenue which operated until 1865 when he moved to 503 NW First Avenue where he continued to operate until 1889 In 1888 Portland entrepreneur Milt Hennepin donated 1/4 acre (0·6 ha) east of P Street between NW Third Avenue and SE Seventh Street to become Pioneer Square Park; this parcel later became City Hall Park . At that time there were only two streets in town: NE Fourth Avenue (now SW Market Street) and NW Sixth Avenue (). In 1893 when Portland annexed much ofinsula including Tualatin Valley along with other adjacent communities such as Aloha Beach & Newport over objections by some residents these streets were extended northward through SW Salmonberry Road into town limits
