Tualatin, Oregon is a small town located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Oregon. The population was 1,975 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salem-Keizer metropolitan area. The town began as a cattle and agricultural community in 1884 near what is now Keizer and Tualatin Rivers. A post office was established in 1886, and by 1890 it had grown to include a school and general store. In 1906, Tualatin became an incorporated town with a population of 100 people. By 1912, the town had developed streetcar service to its growing community, with three stations served: Keizer (near the present day Monsanto School), Tualatin (at what is now First Street NE) and Gresham (just east of Interstate 5). The first telephone line arrived in 1913; by 1915 there were also two gas masks for use while working at local mills or farms. In 1941, Tualatin joined forces with Redmond to form the Redmond-Tualatin Regional Airport Authority; that same year it built a new airport south of town on land donated by industrialist David Boren from his manufacturing company Davenport Tool Company Limited. That airport has been home to both Portland International Airport and McClellan AFB since World War II when it was used as an airfield for military training purposes only before becoming dedicated to commercial aviation after 1945. In 1952, TRSA began providing commuter services within the Metropolitan Area using buses powered by steam locomotives between Redmond's Municipal Airport and downtown Portland; those services ended in 1991 when TRSA merged into Amtrak effective that date In 1977 TRASA took over all private passenger transportation within Greater Portland including bus service which continued until 1991 . The city limits were extended southward along First Avenue NE from Willamette Boulevard eastward to join Salem adjacent thereto on May 16th 1978 when Douglas County voted not to annex any more towns into its boundaries thereby ending their relationship with Tualaton Township which then became known as "Salem annexed by Douglas County" although this annexation did not take effect until after passage of Measure 97 which created Trasa Transit District #1 serving all unincorporated areas within Douglas County except for parts of Lindenwald annexed by counties other than Douglas On October 15th 1984 voters approvedMeasure 95 creating Trasa Transit District #2 which provides light rail service between Pullman/Salem Junction and Beaverton
