Tualatin, Oregon is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Multnomah County. The population was 41,402 at the 2010 census, making it the 8th most populous city in Oregon and its second largest afterPortland. Tualatin was founded on January 12, 1868 by John Day and his party of pioneers as a stop on their route from Astoria, Oregon tosthe Willamette River valley. The first post office in town was established in 1870. The city's name comes from two Native American words—tūalān meaning "river" and alānīkī meaning "place where water flows." It has been reported that early settlers were confused about the pronunciation of the word because it sounded like "tun-lay-ahn". Eventually they started calling it Tualatin because that is what General Robert E. Lee called it when he visited during the American Civil War (1861–1865). The original downtown area only included a few blocks along Beaver Street between Third Street and Fourth Street; however, over time other districts were built around these central areas: east side/north side/south side/west side. Today there are several districts including Pioneer Square, Hillsboro Heights, Northside (the current business district), Southeast Jackson Heights (including parts of Roosevelt Park), Downtown Eastside (Downtown West Side), Northwest Portland Central Area (NW Portland Business District) and Northwest Portland Independent District created by annexing parts of Southwest Portland Municipal District. Oregon State University is located within walking distance of many downtown businesses while larger universities such as Reed College and Lewis & Clark University are also close by with ample parking space available for students or faculty involved in research & teaching activities both inside & outside campus buildings!

The area now called Tualatin was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. The town name "Tualatin" was given to it by European traders as an approximation of their word for "tall tree." It became a general store and post office on April 12, 1853, and was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1897. In 1916, Tualatin acquired water from nearby Mount Hood and began supplying its residents with safe drinking water without need for cisterns or deep wells. A public works project completed in 1922 added parkland and new buildings to the city center. The project cost $5 million and employed over 2,000 people; it served as a model for similar projects undertaken in other American cities during the 1920s and 1930s. In 1937–1938, Tualatin hosted both world's fairs – the International Exposition of 1937 (the precursor to Expo '39) and World's Fair of 1939 (later renamed Worlds Fair). The event generated approximately $40 million in economic activity within the city limits alone. During World War II, Tualatin played an important role in munitions production through its plant that produced airplane wings and other war-related materials such as rubber tires
The community of Tualatin, Oregon is a small town located in the Willamette Valley on the banks of the Columbia River. The community was founded in 1878 by George Washington Hill and his wife Esther. The first post office was opened in 1879.
