Gun barrels history in Tualatin, Oregon began with the founding of the first gunsmith shop in this city on December 8, 1873. The shop was located at 5th and Broadway and was run by C.F. Beavers and his son-in-law, W.H. Clapp. The Beavers were instrumental in making Tualatin one of the most important cultural centers in Oregon during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to their contributions to rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader and pistol making as well as their role in developing Portland’s municipal court system. In addition to their gunsmithing skills, they also became prominent members of local civic organizations including the Masonic order and served on various city committees. They are buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Tualatin. During World War I, Beavers enlisted in the United States Army as a sergeant and was then assigned to duty with Company B 9th Infantry Regiment stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota prior to its deployment to France on April 15th 1918 where he remained until May 14th 1919 when he retired from military service withthe rank of captain (CPL). After his discharge from combat service he returned home to Portland where he resumed his weaponsmithing career until his death on October 1st 1922 at age 73 years old after many years of continuous activity within the firearms industry.- C F Beavers Museum

The library became an important resource for the community and it remains one of Oregon's most popular libraries today.
