In 1847, the first white people set foot in what is now Oregon. They were miners who had come down from California to find gold. This new land was mostly forested and barren, but they found a small stream that led them to a rich vein of gold. The miners began to build their own houses and businesses and soon enough, they had attracted other settlers too. One of these men was John Day, who decided to name his new community after himself- Tualatin ( meaning "full of rivers"). By 1850, there were some 1,500 people living in Tualatin. The town grew quickly because it was an excellent place to mine gold. People also started growing crops and trading with other parts of the country. In 1859, Tualatin became the capital of Oregon Territory. Soon afterwards, it started becoming an important trade center for the region because of its location at the headwaters of the Columbia River. Tualatin's growth didn't stop when it became an incorporated city though- it kept going strong until World War II when everything went crazy due to war efforts and refugees coming over from Japan! After that point things slowed down considerably as most people turned their attention back to their homes country during wartime times! In 1949, Tualatin left Oregon Territory entirely and Became part of Clark County- making it one of the more recent counties in Oregon!
The town of Tualatin, Oregon was founded in 1846 by John McLoughlin and his wife. The first post office was opened in 1849. In 1865, the town became a railway center with the opening of the Portland to Seattle railroad. In 1886, Tualatin became one of the first towns in Oregon to be incorporated as a city.
