Tualatin is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon, located about an hour's drive fromPortland and its metropolitan area. The population was 24,592 as of the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Oregon by population. It is also the second-largest city in Oregon after Portland. The first European settlers arrived in 1851 and founded what is now Tualatin on the Willamette River south of present day Salem. In 1871, Tualatin became part of the newly created state of Oregon and had its first government established under that name with James Hanks as Mayor. In 1916, Tualatin annexed portions of nearby Eugene to form a new municipality which still exists today as a separate community within Tualatin limits. In 1968, Tualatin adopted its current name which comes from two Spanish words: "túnel" or "tunnel" (meaning way or path) and "alcalde" or mayor (meaning head). The original business district centered around downtown was abandoned in favor of suburban development but has been reborn as something more vibrant since redevelopment began in the early 2000s including several upscale shopping malls and restaurants along Center Street between Second Avenue and Interstate 5. Oregon Route 99 bisects town center creating an intense commercial corridor running east-west through downtown with many small businesses clustered along Cherry Street between First Avenue and Interstate 5/US 101E north to west; this area has seen significant redevelopment recently including multiple high-end office complexes anchored by Amazon Web Services Headquarters North America . Other major clusters include several dozen large apartment buildings built over 25 years ago near Third Avenue NE; these buildings have all been replaced by new residential towers with larger apartments – most notably One Northwest at 12th Ave NW with 432 units Tualityin’s growing skyline can be seen from miles away thanks to aerial view photos taken during my childhood when I would take my dog for walks down Central Street just beyond where I grew up playing baseball on Thurston High School’s fields

Tualatin is a small city located in Oregon, United States. The population of Tualatin was 7,362 at the 2010 census. It is the second smallest city in Oregon. The name "Tualatin" is derived from the Wascana word "tua-a-lin," meaning "riverbank." The first European to visit Tualatin was Captain John McLoughlin in 1792 while exploring the Columbia River region for new water routes to California. He named the area for his home town of Tuam, Scotland. Congress approved a grant of land to establish a fur trading post at what is now Tualatin in 1804 by Ulysses S. Grant and James Kappes. In 1811, David Aspinwall founded what became known as Aspinwall's Mill and Warehouse on the north side of Hood River near present day Marshfield Avenue. A post office was established at Tualatin in 1814, and it remained an important commercial center until 1862 when it was renamed Seattle after King George III of England. In 1850, entrepreneur Ira Mansfield built the first mill complex on river banks east of downtown Tualatin. By 1860, mills had become major employers with 624 workers employed at 46 mills in 10 districts along Hood River and Willamette Rivers south of Portland; these mills produced flour, cottonseed oil, paper products such as paper bags and boxes, boots and shoes (later appliance parts), lumber (including veneerings), fish products (including catfish processing), cattle products (including branding samples) and other goods essential to Portland’s economy during this period of rapid growth outside its limits on Main Street between SW First Avenue and NE Stark St.). In 1865–66 plans were formulated for building a large railroad depot on Smith Road just northeast of today's Hansen School District campus; but because no money could be raised for infrastructure construction two years later – due to heavy freight traffic brought about by railroad development – only one locomotive shed/ workshops were actually built at nearby Sandy Beach Lumber Company which served as an terminalsite until 1923 when that company closed its operations after being taken over by Southern Pacific Railroad who used it as their mainline terminal until 1943 when it closed again due to World War II bombing damage which destroyed most everything within yards 500 feet away from track & all engines were removed except one which still stands inside former SP Yard today! It wasn't until 1958 that Amtrak began regular passenger service through Salem-Keizer-Hood River Junction Station using locomotives operated by their own short line crews operating up & down tracks right next door! In 1969 Amtrak discontinued passenger service through Keizer Junction Station & opened up Amtrak's new Salem station just west of Center Street opposite Union Hall instead! Today Amtrak calls Salem home once more providing access from Eugene (& surrounding communities) onto both Portland's main street system as well as Northernridged rail lines making this another major transportation hub in Northwest USA!
