The first Europeans to visit Troutdale were fur traders in 1827 and 1828 who named it "Wahtsoo" after their leader, George Wahtsoo of the Great Lakes Company. In 1839, General John C. Fremont founded what would become Oregon City by moving his troops from nearby Cardigan Ranch into what was then rural Lane County. The townsite at Troutdale was platted in 1845 by local builders Elijah Beal and James Irvine as "New Townsite." At that time it included only a small piece of land east of Main Street between SW 10th Avenue and SW 12th Avenue; most of today's town boundaries were developed later when other portions were annexed to make up the present community: eastwest streets running north/south ( cornering what are now NW 11th Avenue and NE 5th Place),NW 6th Avenue (formerly SE 4th Place),SW 2nd Place (now NE 3rd Place), southeast corner SW 7th Ave., southwest corner NW 8th Ave., northwest corner NW 9th Ave., and northeast corner NE 10TH Ave. In 1850s Portland became an established city while Eugene became a farming village near the mouth of the Deschutes River; both cities experienced rapid growth due to new transportation routes opened up by railroads during this time period. By 1870 much of central Oregon had been taken over by military forces fighting against Mexican settlers invaders known as Umpqua Indians; eastern Lane County lay empty until Rogue Valley entrepreneur David Dudley bought large tracts there in 1871 for $1 per acre ($4 million dollars today). Dudley renamed his new area "Dudleyville" after himself but soon realized that he could not support such high population levels there so he sold most or all of it back to farmers within two years; only about 30 people lived there permanently before it was abandoned again in 1875 when its population dropped below 300 due to various factors including starvation caused by bitter winter weather conditions combined with dwindling resources brought over with European settlement throughout that decade plus increased competition from Bendigo owners eager for access to resources now available elsewhere across the Columbia River valley floor Duwamish & Whatcom Counties respectively In 1907 Ludlow Silliphant arrived in Northwest Oregon looking for logging rights along Whatcom River which he had heard about from friends living upstream in Whatcom County; he purchased 2400 acres around Troutdale from farmers Gustavus Waddell & Samuel Raymond for $5 per acre ($140 million dollars today) thus founding Silliphant Timber Co.; firstLogging began on January 1st 1908 on Silliphant's land west of troutdale Road off SW 3rd St., just south of present day SE 4th Platoon Base Camp where today's Black Diamond Resort sits “We started out taking logs downriver because we thought it would be a good business opportunity," said current owner Donny Grossebergski regarding Silliphant’s early days logged timber although no physical evidence remains anywhereBirch Creek Falls State Park Visitor Center has exhibits on how lumberjacking operated during those days like equipment used including saw horses, powerboats and even an old locomotive

Troutdale is a town in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 9,869 as of the 2010 census. Troutdale is located on the north bank of the Willamette River. It is one of several towns in Multnomah County that were founded by early settlers from Northern California and Oregon. The first residents of Troutdale arrived in 1875 when men and women under the leadership of Captain John Sutter journeyed down the Willamette River from their rancho near Sacramento, California to found a new settlement near present-day Troutdale. They named their new settlement for General George C. Smith, who had been instrumental in helping to bring about American independence during the Mexican–American War (1846–1848). At first, most of the settlers were loggers and lumberjacks who harvested timber along the riverbanks. But over time, some farmers began to grow crops and build homes. In 1915, a small community called Cottonwood was established nearby; it eventually became part of Troutdale. In 1933, Multnomah County formed and trout dart became its currency; at that time it was only used within Troutdale itself or between other villages withinMultnomah County
