Troutdale is a small town in Oregon, United States. The population was 5,886 at the 2010 census. Beattie described an Indian village called Tranquility which he said lay "on its back upon a range of high mountains." The name Tranquility may be derived from French meaning 'peaceful place'. By 1890 most residents were Anglo-Saxon and no one knew what it meant from their language or history. In 1902 Charles Waddell started a lumber company in downtown Troutdale with his brother George Waddell and began logs being floated downriver to build dams for his mill on McLoughlin Creek. The future site of Beaverton became home to both mills until 1908 when they were moved downstream into what is now Clackamas County so that Beaverton could have better access to waterpower for its own mills. In 1925 Don Buhl joined Charles Waddell as owner of Beaverton Lumber Company and began purchasing land adjacent to McLoughlin Creek for use as a sawmill campground and other industrial development including power plants, paper pulp mills, an auto dealership, radio studios and more homes than any other community in Oregon at that time! In 1970s there was talk about building an oil refinery but this never happened because Oregon's state government decided against it because it would have interfered with salmon fishing grounds around Rogue River Dam! By 1990s most residents were Anglo-Saxon and no one knew what it meant from their language or history; however some people did know that Troutdale was named after General James Kretschmer who led American forces during World War I!
