Troutdale is a small town in the Wallowa County region of Oregon, United States. It is located on the Snake River north of Bend and east of The Dalles. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,876. Troutdale is a bedroom community for Bend and parts of The Dalles. The first people to live in what is now Troutdale were Native Americans who hunted game near the confluence of the Snake and Pend Oreille Rivers. In 1859, James Fenton purchased from the local Mohawk tribe some land at what is now Troutdale Boulevard and Umpqua Streets. He named his new settlement after his friend, David Trumbull, one-time governor of Ohio and founder of Yale University. By 1865, Trumbull had moved to central Oregon to found The Dalles as a trading post on the Columbia River between Portland and Seattle. In 1869 he sold his share in The Dalles to Arent Jenson for $10,000 cash which he used to buy other interests in The Dalles before dying in 1893. His widow married John Couchman who ran an unsuccessful banking business until 1910 when he donated all his holdings including Troutdale Boulevard to Troutdale Township as part of a deal that put him into touch with fellow Germans who then founded nearby Bend during World War I. In 1907 work began on building what would become known as "Couchman Dam" across from what are now Duck Island Park Drive and Olympic Boulevard (later renamed "Troutdale Boulevard"). Work stopped due to bad weather but resumed later that year when couchesman's wife died; her husband continued working until his death in 1944 followed by their daughter who continued operations until 1977 when it was taken over by developers creating much newer homes throughout much larger portions than those once occupied by Couchman Dam back when it was known simply as "Dam Road". From 1922 through 1933 (and again from 1951 through 1957) Gordon Childs operated a creamery here which produced ice cream for local residents including many children living nearby on Stevenson Street between Couchman Dam Rd./Fishtrap Lake Rd./Waverly Creek Rd./Lake Butte Dr./Moses Lake Dr.; while also serving up hot dogs at Shields Bakery on Center Street where they bought their daily supplies ($0 worth today). With restrictions placed upon interstate travel during this time because of World War II shortages there were occasional visits from Hollywood stars such as Bing Crosby who made two trips before returning home early one summer night only able to find that all his luggage had been removed so he couldn't enter the country proper! Some years later Eddy Arnold became involved with advertising here starting out with sponsoring contests outdoors where townsfolk would compete against each other making their products stand out from those popular among storeowners elsewhere; eventually becoming quite proficient himself becoming well-known both nationally& internationally for television commercials beginning appearing regularly during & following various wars throughout history thru several different networks! By 1913, it had become one of America's leading agricultural centres with over 1 million head of cattle and 400 miles (600 km) of railroads linking it to markets all over the world. In recent years, Troutdale has seen significant growth as an arts destination – home to both The Arts District (a downtown district full of galleries, museums and other performing arts venues) and Fisherman's Wharf (one mile wide strip along Oregon Street waterfront that houses restaurants, bars and shops). Additionally, portions of town have been developed into new Residential neighbourhoods called Northside or Eastside which offer quality homespun lifestyle with close access to public transportation
Troutdale is located in the northwestern portion of Oregon and its history dates back to 1847. At that time, it was part of the Rogue River District of the United States Topeka Missionary Society. The now defunct district was organized on July 3, 1847 and had jurisdiction over all of southwestern Oregon. On October 5, 1850, Troutdale became a town when it merited incorporation by vote of its citizens.
