The first Europeans to visit Troutdale were traders and missionaries who arrived in 1820. The first settler was Samuel Morse, who built his home on the banks of the river in 1825. By 1830, there were more than 50 people living in what was then mainly a farming community. In 1833, John McLoughlin founded McLoughlin & Co., one of the most successful commercial enterprises of its time. In 1847, William Halsey moved to Troutdale from McClellanville, Oregon with his wife and five children. They operated a flour mill that produced high-quality flour for local markets until 1865 when they sold their business to George Aiken for $5,000 cash. Although Halsey had no land himself - he leased it from others - he helped build what would become one of Troutdale's most important landmarks: The First Christian Church (now called First Baptist). Aiken also played an important role in developing local industry by starting the first papermill in Troutdale in 1865 and later expanding it into an pulp mill which continues to operate today as Pacific Northwest Paper Company (PPC). He donated land for a public park which became known as Aiken Park after him; this park now includes a playground and two beaches along the Clackamas River. During World War II, Troutdalers mobilized to help with manufacturing needs such as munitions production; however only two buildings remain from this time period still standing in town: The Aiken Paper Mill Building (#2) and The McCloughlin Paper Mill Building (#1). Today these structures serve as museum features honoring both businesses’ contributions to their respective towns during that time frame

Troutdale is a town located in Oregon, United States. The population was 4,813 at the 2010 census. Troutdale was founded by Brigham Young and his associates in 1847 as a wagon stop on the Oregon Trail. The current name of the town comes from the stream that flows through it, Trout Creek. The first permanent settler in Troutdale was John Henry Eaton, who arrived in 1848. He built a log cabin on the banks of the creek and named it Eatonville after himself and his family. Other early settlers included Aimee McGillicuddy and her husband Daniel McGillicuddy; John Prentice; George Fife; Benjamin Fife; Hiram Berryman; Isaac Lundgren; James Gamble; Samuel Greggs (1824-1907); James Wickersham (1827-1912). In 1862, local farmers formed what became known as the "Troutdale Agricultural Society" to purchase land around their farmsteads for growing crops. By 1865, they had developed a small village with a tavern, store, schoolhouse and two churches. In 1896, trout fishing became an important industry in this community due to its clear water resources and excellent fishing grounds near Salmon Falls Dam
Troutdale is a city in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. The population was 13,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Troutdale was founded in 1887 by businessman and politician George Stephenson and his wife Fannie J. Stephenson as a small community on the banks of the Willamette River. The town quickly became known for its scenic routes such as the Ridgeway Loop and Timberline Drive, which connect it to downtown Portland. In 1924, Stephenson donated land west of town to provide urban growth boundaries for Troutdale while still maintaining its rural character. In 1952, Troutdale adopted ordinance No. 4 which banned smoking inside council chambers; this ordinance remains in effect today. Later that year, Mayor Denny Sorenson enacted an ordinance establishing daycare facilities for children between the ages of six and twelve years old within city limits; these are now called "Sorenson Park". In 1984, City Council passed an ordinance creating a park system within city limits; this system is now called "Troutdale Park." That same year also saw the first instance of zoning change in Troutdale history when council approved amendments to residential zoning that would allow more development near the river than had been proposed initially. In 1998, troutdale voters passed an Ordinance reaffirming their support for open space preservation as well as authorizing new development on parcels within city limits located adjacent to existing open spaces including Sorenson Park and SE 174th Avenue NE - home of two large nature reserves: Ohlone National Wildlife Refuge & Tillamook Lake Preserve .
