Troutdale, Oregon is a town located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The population was 22,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The name " Troutdale" likely comes from its location on the Snake River and its many trout streams. The first settler in what is now Troutdale was John C. Fremont, who arrived in 1847. He named his new community after himself, which he thought would be more memorable than anything else in the area. By 1860, when it had a population of about 100 people, it had become known as the "Gateway to the Willamette." In 1870, Oregon General James Wickersham founded a military post here called Fort George Wright to control access to the huge endowment given by Ulysses S. Grant that year. The early years of Troutdale were difficult for both settlers and Native Americans because of various disagreements over land rights and fishing opportunities on either side of the Snake River. But gradually things began to change with an influx of European immigrants - many of whom were farmers - and their impact on local life can still be seen today: In 1875, two brothers named Edward Ayer bought 160 acres (65 ha) near what is now downtown Troutdale from Indians for $200; they set out to build a sawmill and agriculture became one of the town's mainstay industries. irrigation systems made farming possible on rapidly diminishing river flats; by 1925, Troutdale had over 1,000 acres (500 ha) under cultivation! Today nearly all residents are employed within commuting distance by jobs in Portland or Salem; some also commute into Eugene for work at Catholic University or Oregon State University . In 1975-76 there was an attempt by several hundred citizens to create a city government specifically targeting troutdaleians through tedious but fruitless efforts to collect signatures from registered electors living outside city limits! This included mailing ballots directly to county voters - something that still goes on occasionally today! On January 7th 1977, however (just three months after incorporation), troutdalians voted overwhelmingly in favor of creating their own police department...and so it has been ever since! Today most people hereabouts enjoy relatively peaceful protests against political corruption or other injustices only occasional breakouts into violence erupting as small-scale skirmishes between rival gangs or individuals seeking personal gain rather then public order considerations; this notwithstanding periodic outrageous examples like last November's – thankfully brief – rioting across much larger parts o f our great Northwest cities during otherwise routine holiday celebrations

Troutdale is a small town in Oregon, United States. The population was 602 at the 2010 census. Troutdale is located on the banks of the Willamette River, about 20 miles (32 km) north of Portland. The first Europeans to visit Troutdale were fur traders from Canada in 1825. In 1847, Mormon missionaries came to Troutdale and started a Methodist church there. By 1870, the town had grown to about 160 people. The first school was built in 1873 and became an elementary school before moving to its current location in 1903. In 1907, Troutdale became home to Oregon's first air-conditioned shopping mall when it opened at what is now Highway 97A east of downtown. The mall continued operation until it closed in 2002 following a fire that destroyed much of the building. In 1965, when Interstate 5 was being constructed through Oregon, parts of Troutdale were included within the limits of the new highway. As part of this project, two main streets were realigned: Main Street became I-5 southbound and Easton Avenue became I-5 northbound; and West Overlook Boulevard became North Overlook Boulevard east of downtown). The old Macy's store on Main Street still stands as an example of Bungalow Builder architecture; it has been vacant since 2001 but has been occasionally used for local events such as art shows or weddings which have attracted many visitors over the years including President Barack Obama who stopped by during his campaign stop there in 2008 while he was running for office against John McCain
Troutdale was founded in 1887 by James Fenton, a rancher and banker. The town became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and proximity to the Willamette River. Troutdale's economy changed during World War II when the military constructed several airfields in the area. After the war, Troutdale became a popular tourist destination thanks to its natural beauty and historical landmarks.
