The dam also provided power for electric lights and streetlights within town limits until 1957 when it was replaced by an all-electric plant near present day Pioneer Courthouse Square. A train station opened near present day Pioneer Courthouse Square on December 5, 1915 as part of what became Northwest Railway Company's system extending eastward from Portland across much of North America before being absorbed by Amtrak in 1971 Tigard's economy has been based largely upon agriculture since before World War II with a brief interruption during the Great Depression The city has consistently grown since then with annexations by other municipalities including Campbell City (1974), Sherwood Park (2000), Hillsboro (2005) and Caldwell (2010). In 2016 crime rates had decreased slightly compared to 2015 but remain high relative to other municipalities in Oregon . The highest rate for violent crime reported by clackamas county happened between 2017-2018 which averaged 214 per 100k residents
