Tigard, Oregon is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 30,868 at the 2010 census. Tigard is the county seat of Multnomah County and it is home to the University of Portland. The area that now Tigard was first settled by farmers in 1847. They named their community after Thomas Jefferson Tighe, an American politician who served as secretary of state under President James K. Polk in the late 19th century. The town's first school was built in 1851 on what is now Southeast Sixth Avenue. In 1893, Sabinus Wagon Wheel Brewery opened in downtown Tigard and soon became one of the largest breweries in Oregon with a production capacity of 100,000 barrels per year. It closed its doors in 1978 but has been reborn as a restaurant and nightlife destination with locations throughoutMultnomah County ever since. In 1907 Columbia Gorge National Scenic Byway was completed connectingPortland and Vancouver with scenic drives through rolling hills and valleys near Mount Hood National Forest; this provided an easy way for people from both cities to get around without having to go too far out into rural areas where there weren't many places to eat or drink other than small stores or gas stations. With Interstate 5 running right through town (and starting up close to our present day library),access to this national park grew ever more accessible until it finally closed its gates for good in 1990 when all operations were transferred to Milwaukie Falls within 10 miles of Tigard proper! As Multnomah County continued growing rapidly during the early 21st century – becoming one of the most diverse counties in America due largely to its large African American population –the need for housing started becoming apparent which ledto development along SE Sixth Avenue between Burnside Street and Morrison Road known as "The Strip". This area saw heavy investment including several high-end restaurants such as Benares Indian Restaurant which opened up shop here before being acquired by Jamba Juice later that decade; however even though things have been going swimmingly since then(Benares still stands today!),it should be noted that much development has taken place adjacent to Morrison Road specifically east of Burnside Street between SW Stark St & NE Killam Ave.; these developments include several high-end apartment towers overlooking Puget Sound called cherry blossom apartments;[1]a new IMAX theater complex known as Regal Theatres (formerly Cascade Pacific)opened up just north of town on NW Thurston Rd.,home also currently to KFC-Kentucky Fried Chicken; furthermore two major shopping malls have also opened up recently adjacent thereto: One located south on Davis Blvd.,known as Made InOregon mall while another located west on Harrison St., tentatively named Regency Mall.[2][3] [4][5][6] Finally,[7] Tualatin Valley Fairgrounds - formerly Beavercreek Racetrack -opened up just north/west of town along US 26 about midway between MAX lines MAX South & North stations with food courts,[8][9],[10],álcoolers/(pumpkin pastries)[11],and showrooms (mainly clothing retailers) making it one stopMAX for everything imaginable! Some would say that Tigard may be “the last bastion left standing”of old-time Oregon country living culture following decades marked by rapid suburbanization and general commercialization within regional communities across central Oregon

The population grew rapidly, reaching 3,000 by 1870. In 1872, Tigard celebrated its centennial with a celebration that included an exhibition of local products and an agricultural fair. That year also saw the construction of the first school building in Tigard; it would serve as the central school for the community until 1915. During this time, Tigard also made major contributions to Oregon culture by hosting a number of cultural events including its own version of Hollywood's "Dance at Home." In 1909, Tigard incorporated as a city under state law and quickly began to grow along with its population. By 1920, it had reached 10,000 residents and boasted several large industries including lumberyards and paper mills
Tigard, Oregon was founded in 1847 by Capt. George Vancouver and his men on the banks of the Willamette River. The town grew rapidly and by 1860 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1876, Tigard became the county seat of Clackamas County.
