In 1850, the population of Tigard was only 10 people and it didn't grow much until the early 1880s when a railroad came through the area. A lumber mill was built in 1881 and the town started to become more busy. By 1900, Tigard had a population of over 100 people and it continued to grow until World War II when it had reached its peak at around 300 people. After the war, there were smaller decreases in population but Tigard still remained an active community until the late 1990s when it began to decline again.
