Gun lights have been around for a long time in The Dalles, Oregon. Gun lights are used to signalize and guide drivers when it is safe for them to stop. In the early 1800s, gun lights were used by Native Americans to signal hunters who were tracking their game. In 1916, the United States Patent Office awarded a patent to George Burgess for his invention of the first permanent lighted signboard in the United States. This signboard was made from two pieces of wood that were cut into an 8-foot wide by 4-foot deep rectangle. The front of this signboard had a small light that would show through a hole in the top and bottom, while the back side had no light and was only used as a support post. In 1922, Carl Wiegand patented his own version of a gun light, which he called the “Wiegand Light”. This light consisted of two white Morse code flashes projected through an open aperture on one end of an aluminum pole (similar to how an electrician uses an arc lamp). These signals could be seen up to 100 feet away and could be heard over loud noises such as traffic or thunder. During World War II, gunlights became popular among soldiers because they allowed them to see at night what other troops were up against. Gunlights also helped commanders spot targets during aerial bombardments or artillery barrages. After World War II, many companies began making gun lights based on designs created by other companies. Some of these companies included Coleman Manufacturing Co., Westinghouse Electric Company, General Instrument Corporation, Sylvania Electronics Corporation and H&R Block Incorporated Domestic Home Security Light Company (DHSC). DHSC produced both high quality handgun sights and car headlights using wire mesh screens instead of glass lenses so that they could project more light than traditional gunlights without causing glare or eye fatigue during bright sunlight scenes outside

Today, Dalles is a vibrant community that enjoys excellent shopping opportunities as well as cultural events throughout year including concerts and art exhibitions. It also boasts two great golf courses - one owned by Nike Inc., which offers excellent views of Mount Hood National Park from its course; and another by Black Hills Golf Club which offers challenging holes within minutes' walk of downtown Dalles proper.

It was founded by John Wesley Powell in 1869 as an agricultural and wagon depot on the U.S.-British Columbia border. The name derived from a word meaning "to cross" or "to go over." In 1870, Powell and his brother-in-law, George C. Smith, purchased land across the river from what is now The Dalles to create a new city named after them. Powell's original idea for the city was to provide quick access to natural resources that were abundant in British Columbia but not found at the edge of civilization; he thought this would be an ideal location for grain storage andexport processing activities. However, when Britain pulled out of its Empire in 1905, Canada took control of British Columbia and renamed it Vancouver Island; The Dalles languished until World War II when it became an important military base for the Pacific theater. After Japan captured Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941, The Dalles became an important naval port where supplies were unloaded and delivered to Japanese forces fighting against America's allies during World War II. In 1951, The Dalles was chosen as site for Expo '51 which highlighted Oregon's agriculture industry and its growing population center with its new industrial developments such as aluminum smelters and meat packing plants. As part of Expo '51's bid to become world capital of culture, City Hall relocated from downtown Portland to The Dalles in 1952; since then it has been home to various government offices including both the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) - which oversees public health in Oregon - and Multnomah County Government Services (MCGS). Today, The Dalles is also known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration which attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year
The Dalles was a small irrigation and water access system in the Oregon Country, built by the U.S. government to provide water for settlers in the area. The first completion of the system was in 1867, and it continued to be developed until it was abandoned in 1935.
