After World War II ended, growth began toslow down as more people moved into towns throughout Oregon looking for opportunities than there were available in rural areas. However, this didn't mean that Dalles didn't experience change; it was actually one of the fastest growing towns in Oregon during this time period due to its close proximity to urban areas and its ability to attract new businesses and professionals who needed little or no space or infrastructure inside their buildings! A parade started being held annually downtown each year on Veteran's Day which soon became known as "The Big Day". In recent years, however, The Big Day has been replaced by an agricultural show which takes place at nearby McClellan Park every January since 2007(). As recently as 1980 there was only 1 grocery store open in town (now 4). Today we have 7 stores including 2 large Walmart chains (Wegmans and Sam's Club) as well as 3 local farmers' markets making our shopping experience even better! Our economy has shifted so much that we are currently pursuing an expansion strategy that will see us opening 2 more stores but also increasing our online presence while keeping prices low so you can shop without breaking the bank!

The town of The Dalles, Oregon was founded in 1851 by Captain David Fletcher and his family. The area that is now located in The Dalles was first inhabited by the Yurok people. In 1853, Captain Fletcher's brother-in-law, George Vancouver, established a trading post at the mouth of the Umpqua River. By 1861, The Dalles had a population of about 160 people and was known as a stopping place on the Oregon Trail. On July 14, 1862, Captain Fletcher and six other pioneers set out from The Dalles for what would be their final journey westward. They were killed when their wagon train was attacked by Indians near Mount Hood. In 1871, Colonel John Covered Bridge organized a group of settlers to explore eastern Oregon and laid out a townsite at The Dalles. By 1870, The Dalles had become an important farming community with about 200 residents. With its busy commercial district and railroads nearby, The Dalles became an important center for commerce in eastern Oregon during the late 19th century. During World War II, members of the United States military used The Dalles as an assembly point for troops convoying into occupied Japan. After the war ended, many buildings in downtown were destroyed or damaged in a fire that burned throughout most of 1951-1952; however many continued to operate until they were destroyed again by fire in 1978. Most recently (2011), much of downtown has been renovated including new streetscape design which replaced part of original architecture indicative of pioneer culture such as logs rolled down street corners to form sidewalks etc..
