In 1912, John Browning submitted a new type of airgun known as the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR). The BAR was revolutionized by its ability to fire multiple rounds per minute with no need for reloads. It became one of the most popular firearms in history due to its deadly accuracy and easy operation

The Dalles is a city in Oregon, United States. It is the county seat of Wasco County and was founded by the Lewis and Clark Expedition on July 24, 1846. The city is located on the Columbia River, about 20 miles (32 km) south of Portland, the state capital. The population was 7,362 as of 2010.[1] The Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through Dalles in late 1846 while exploring what is now Washington State’s eastern border. Their route crossed the river at this location where they built their first summer campgrounds on August 16-17. Over time these campsites became known as "the Dalles", after General John A. Dixon's military campaign against Native American tribes in this area that began in 1847. In October 1850 a group of men under Captain George Vancouver set out from Portland to explore the Columbia River Gorge but were met with strong resistance from local Indians who considered them trespassers; they only completed one stage of their journey before being forced back by Chief Yakima's warriors[2]. In 1861 when Oregon became a free state, Dalles voted to become its own town and was incorporated on December 6th,[3]. The first post office opened in 1865[4], and within a few years it had become an important stop for travelers along Interstate 5 between Eugene and Seattle. By 1915 it had expanded into what is now downtown Dalla; however, during World War II most businesses closed down because there was no need for them due to wartime shortages of materials such as lumber or paper products[5]. In 1948 downtown Dalla was destroyed by fire which destroyed much of the old commercial district which has been rebuilt over time using new construction techniques including fiberglass buildings[6]. Today DowntownDalla features several art galleries, restaurants and nightlife options that make it an interesting place to live although it can be quite noisy at times due to its many enterprises.[7]
The town of Dalles, Oregon was founded in 1853 by John C. Frémont and his brother George. The town was named after the nearby Cascade Range. The first post office was established in 1854, and the first store opened in 1855. In 1865, Dalles became a stop on the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
