It includes a carved wood plaque that reads “This Ammo Can Came From A Ridge Over There” inspired by comments made by Governor Oswald Garrison Villard about how great Winchester’s new ammunition was going to be for shooting game during his visit to northwestern Oregon in 1936-37

St. Helens, Oregon was founded in 1877 by John C. Frémont and his partner David S. Halliday. The town was named after the volcanic mountain St. Helens which is located in southeastern Washington state. The town began as a logging community with woodchips being the primary product exported from the area. In 1902, the first high school was established in St. Helens and it served as a feeder for the nearby schools until 1959 when they were merged into one school system called Deschutes County Schools
