The original settlers were trail drivers working their way eastward from Salt Lake City on Stagecoach Road across Utah Territory into what is now central Oregon. When they reached Springfield they built their first permanent house on State Street NW; this house still stands today and is one of only two remaining buildings from when Springfield was founded. In 1868 a group of Mormons organized themselves into an agricultural society called The People’s Agricultural Society which marketed its own products such as flour and bacon through stores open to all people throughout Oregon territory including Springfield; this society remains active to this day as The Peoples Grain Company Incorporated.. In 1865 General Joseph Smith published his paper “An Address To All True Christians In All Nations” which advocated polygamy within THEChurch OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTERDAY SAINTS which he claimed was under God's guidance: This paper became known as "The Manifesto". On October 15th 1865 Brigham Young sent orders via messenger bearing his signature ordering all men over 21 years old living west of Ogden Canyon inside or outside Of Zion National Park not to emigrate but rather stay put until further notice while he arranged passage for them on trains headed eastwards.; Some members of this group decided instead to move back East following rumors that gold could be found beyond the canyon walls.. After several months these orders were overruled and most turned back home including many young adults who arrived too late for transportation or who died trying out new land they didn't understand... Throughout much of early 19th century there were Reports that large amounts valuable Gold existed hidden beneath the earth but no one ever located any Mines capableof producingGold so everyone continued life at normal levels...... However with development along Railroad lines things changed rapidly When Railroads came along everything got connected & soon people realized how valuable Gold really was... As more people started exploring around Springfields area things got interesting starting with Mining Operations began being established soon after Railway came Along giving miners access not just to Gold but other minerals also....... Over time some very rich Men ended up owning significant amount Of Mines & Farms etc so although everyday life went onnormally until World War One things weren't too bad until then something strange happened during World War One when alot Ofmining took place both sides produced alotOfGold iealthough nobody actually found anythingToExportAfterWAR1

During World War II, Bend served as an airfield for American bombers during Operation Overlord. After the war, most of what is now Oregon's capital city (Portland) began to be developed as a result of its status as an agricultural center and its location at the confluence of several rivers.
