Brown patented his invention which he called the "Browning Automatic Pistol Movement." 2) In 1907, a Swedish inventor named Carl Birger Jansson filed for US Patent 4,521,631 titled "Gun Swivel." This patent described an Improvement in Gun Mountings which allowed firearms to be rotated around their axis without the use of any screws or other common hardware.3) By 1934, two patents had been issued related to the design of gun swivels- one by George E. Smith and the other by Cornelius Vanderbilt Beals.4) In 1938, another patent was granted involving a new design for a pistol grip that could be rotated about its axis with relative ease- this patent was dubbed the "Bendix Pistol Grip Swivel."5) It should also be noted that even after these various patents were issued, it took until 1955 for them to actually be implemented into law- primarily due to bureaucratic red tape.6) As mentioned above, different countries have had their own unique histories when it comes to firearm technology and innovation; this includes America (where innovations like the rifle grenade launcher and machinegun were developed), Sweden (which featured early Glock pistols), and China (which pioneered using gasoperated guns).7) Consequently, while there is no single answer as to why gun swivels came about within specific regions/times periods - it is safe TO say that they did!
Sherwood is a small town in the Pacific Northwest, located on the Snake River. The population was 721 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Centerville-Sherwood, OR Micropolitan Statistical Area. It was settled in 1851 by James Robertson and his wife, Martha Jane. They named it after General Philip Sheridan's father, Robert Sherwood (1795-1865). In 1865, General Sheridan's forces fought an epic battle at Kennewick Hill against Mexican cavalry under Antonio López de Santa Anna. The battle resulted in a victory for American forces andy drove Santa Anna from power – marking one of the first successful U.S.-Mexican wars. Robertson and his family continued to live in Sherwood until 1880 when they sold the land to Jno Moulton who built a sawmill there and renamed it Moulton Saw Mills Incorporated (MSI). In 1902, MSI became Oregon Tool Works which produced tools for farmers and other businesses throughout Oregon and western Washington state before being merged into Hewlett-Packard in 1990. In 1949, MSI donated its entire inventory of toolmaking machinery to Lewis & Clark University which used them to create what is now known as Lewis & Clark University Tool Museum. Today MSI continues to be a major employer in the community with over 200 employees including toolmakers and engineers from around the world who produce products such as screws, nails, bolts and other hardware products

The victory marked an important development in American military history and helped make Oregon into a state with strong ties to America. Today, Sherwood remains a small but vibrant community that retains much of its pioneer culture. The town has several museums including the Pioneer Museum which preserves artifacts from the town’s past;the Old Log Cabin Museum which features examples from throughout Sherwood’s history;andthe Timberjack Museum which displays items related to logging and mining operations in nearby McKenzie City.
