Sherwood is a small town in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. It lies on the south bank of the Clearwater River, about east of The Dalles and west of Portland. As of the 2010 census, the population was 709. The first gun grip company in Sherwood was founded by J.B. Henshaw in 1892. By 1895, he had built a factory that produced guns with pistol grips and triggers. In 1902, Henshaw's son-in-law Wm. Ladd joined him as president and manager of the company. From then until his death in 1957, Ladd was also one ofSherwood's three trustees. In 1934, Johnnie Rayborn opened his own gun grip business at 1501 S State St., which became known as "The Gun Store." His successors continued to operate it until it closed in 1984; since then it has been vacant and occasionally used for storage purposes by various businesses in Sherwood. In 1993, when Oregon Firearms Authority sold The Gun Store to Cabela's Inc., it removed all firearms from its premises and stored them at an adjacent warehouse for future disposal (the last time they were publicly displayed). After years of being unused and neglected, Sherwood residents rallied together to revive The Gun Store by purchasing property adjacent thereto and demolishing the original building to make way for a new store fronting State Street that opened on April 11th 2006! Since its reopening days this business has become one of the most popular tourist attractions within town limits - averaging over 1 million visitors annually!

Sherwood, Oregon is a small town in the U.S. state of Oregon that was founded in 1868. It is located on the banks of the Willamette River, about ten miles west of Portland. The population was 1,088 at the 2010 census.[1] Sherwood was named for General Sherman's headquarters during his march through Oregon in 1865. The town derived its name from nearby Mount Hood which Sherman had seen from his horseback ride over the top of it in 1849. The first post office opened in 1868 and quickly became popular with residents because it was close to both Portland and Salmon Falls, which were then important commercial and transportation hubs. The economy around Sherwood has been mostly agricultural since its founding, but some manufacturing has taken place over time including an early dairy operation and a pet food company which still operates today as part of Nestle Purinaattle Incorporated (a subsidiary of PepsiCo). In recent years, Sherwood has become known for its annual Pumpkinfest Parade that celebrates local pumpkin production and artistry throughout October.
Sherwood was founded in 1853 by Levi Sherman, a fur trader and landowner. The community was named after the nearby Sherwood Forest, which Sherman had visited in 1842. By 1860, Sherman had sold most of his land to the Oregon Territory government, and Sherwood became an officially recognized town. The first post office was established in 1865, and the first school was built in 1870. In 1896, Sherwood became a city.
