Sherwood, Oregon is a small town located in the Rogue Valley of Oregano County, Oregon. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1885 by brothers John and Samuel Hines Sherwood. The community became a ghost town when the railroad passed through it and all of its residents left for other towns in 1904. today only a few foundations remain from when Sherwood had over 2,000 people. The first permanent settler in what would become Sherwood was John Hines who arrived with his family on March 10th, 1885. He farmed land around what is now Sherwood until he sold it to Samuel Hines two years later on October 30th, 1887. The brothers were the first white men to live permanently in what would becomeSherwood and they soon started building homes and businesses there. In 1903 they built the first post office which still stands today within walking distance of their home. The industry that started to grow up aroundSherwood after World War I wasn’t too different from what would continue to thrive throughout much of America during that time period – farming though out most of Oregon managed by families with their own individual growers/ processors who dealt with local merchants or wholesalers who provided products such as flour, milk, vegetables etc., directly to consumers without going through middlemen like those found across America at that time such as Sears Roebuck & Co.. In 1907 however a new type of business started up in SherWOOD called an “ Elevator maximal gas plant” due to inventor/managers Harry Condon and James Withers being able to find an existing natural gas well just outside of town near Mount Hood National Forest while surveying another potential site for development closeby which led them to start construction on this project on November 15th 1907 which completed in 1912 becoming one of the earliest commercial operations associated with natural gas production in NorthAmerica outside those operated by Russian czars during WWI! This company played an important role not only providing essential economic stability for Sherwoods residents but also helping make sherwoods name known throughout much of North America as one of the leading producers/transporters/distributorsof this valuable commodity!
Sherwood was founded in 1887 by J.B. Sherwood and his wife, Emma. The town became a post office in 1893, and a railroad stop in 1915. In the 1920s and 1930s, Sherwood enjoyed a thriving economy based on its fertile farmlands and numerous businesses.
