Salem, Oregon is known for its rich history of firearms and firearm locks. The town was founded in 1879 by George H. Smith, who opened the first gunsmith business in the area. Salem's earliest shotguns were made from Trapdoor wagons. In 1907, the federally licensed gun dealer Samuel Gist opened his store in downtown Salem and began selling pistols and rifle ammunition. In 1911, Winchester Ammunition Corporation purchased Gist's business and renamed it Winchester Armory. In 1916, JB Arms Company was founded in nearby Troutdale with a goal of becoming the "largest handgun retailer in Oregon." By 1922, JB Arms had become one of the world's leading firearms retailers and wholesalers. When you want to remove the lock, you must first remove the Barrel Nut (seen in image below). The Barrel Nut can be removed with a wrench found at most hardware stores.Once off, simply twist off the locknut and pop out the keyhole on top of the locknut. On December 5, 1871, Salemans passed a bill that made it illegal to carry any weapon without a license. This law was repealed in 1934.
Salem, Oregon is a small town in the Soqomatte Valley of the Columbia River Gorge. The population was 1,500 at the 2000 census and increased to 2,000 in 2010. Salem has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two thousand years. The first Europeans to visit Salem were Jesuit missionaries who came through the region in 1792. In 1827, Governor John C. Fremont appointed James Kapp as governor of Oregon Territory after discovering gold near present-day Boise, Idaho. With new discoveries of oil and gas reserves in other parts of Washington and Canada, Kapp decided to settle the area around Salem with American settlers in order to find new sources of income and resources for his state. The first wave of settlers arrived from New England during the late 1800s. Assalem was founded on December 15, 1851 by Captain George Aiken and his family along with twenty others from Emigrant Station on the Snake River below modern-day Portland. The settlement grew quickly; within one year it had a population of ninety-six people! By 1860, there were over one hundred residents living in Assalem proper and fifty miles around its periphery. During its early years Assalem relied heavily on seasonal labor brought overland by wagonloads from British Columbia (now Alberta). This method ceased when an Act relative to emigration passed Congress in 1862 which forbade any more open immigration into America without prior legalization or consent from both states involved (Oregon and Mexico). Although this law did not apply directly to Assalem because it possessed no lands subject to federal jurisdiction—the community nevertheless lost access to key labor markets due to this restriction. As salems growth continued unabated, entrepreneurs began exploring new opportunities within its borders: a sawmill was built on what is now Main Street in 1865; a flour mill followed five years later; a shoe factory opened in 1872; an agricultural cooperative was organized three years later; an insurance agency blossomed four decades later; a hotel opened its doors in 1906 – all while remaining poverty-stricken bastions of workingclass humble folk who refused luxury amenities often associated with larger towns like Portland or Seattle – everything from groceries shopping at local farmers’ markets or taking public transportation became available only via long walks out their door at night . . . It didn’t matter that few people could afford even basic amenities such as water pressure or electricity – everyone knew they could always count on “the old timers” (as they were commonly known) for help when things got tough . . ."Salem" means "a place where you can get busy." Today's citizens celebrate their diverse history by engaging together every day through traditional Salem events including street festivals honoring local pioneers such as General Lucius Noyes and Senator Orville Wright

It is located about 25 miles south of Portland and is bordered by the Columbia River to the east and north, and The Dalles to the west. Salem was founded in 1853 by Captain Arthur Burnett as a fur trading post on the site of present-day Bend, Oregon. In 1855, Salem became a city under the name of Portland. The first white people to live in Salem were French missionaries who arrived there in 1857. The first school in Salem was built on Market Street in 1865 by Reverend John Young and his students. A store built on Congress Street was also opened that year. In 1870, Mayor George Bissell commissioned architect George Stephenson to design a new courthouse which would become one of Salem's most famous landmarks. The building opened in 1872 and soon became known as "the Capitol." In 1893, Salem annexed what are now two adjacent towns – La Grande and Indianola – making it one of the largest cities outside of New York City at that time. At this time, many businesses around downtown were moved out into what is nowbgnow called Old Town Square because development around it stopped after 1898 when new zoning laws made Downtown square off againstOld Town Square for industrial purposes (See: Development Of Downtown Salem). Another major event during this time period was World War I which began with America’s entry into war on November 11th 1917; although initially undeclared, America had become involved militarily almost immediately following its declaration of war On December 7th 1917 President Woodrow Wilson announced that America would not ratify Treatyof Versailles until after America got “an early understanding” about how Germanyys movements could be considered aggressive warfare against American citizens This effectively put an end to WWI while keeping both combatants technically at war while simultaneously allowing Europe to rebuild As hostilities increased throughout 1918 European Americans such as Governor David Douglas started moving out their families back into town as peace negotiations between Germany and Austria were ongoing . German forces then invaded Belgium but were repelled before reaching Paris where they surrendered on January 9th 1919 . Although World War I officially ended with armistice terms being signed near Paris on February 14th 1918 , combat continued until May 12th 1918 across multiple theaters including Ukraine where Russian forces took advantageof Allied withdrawal order/surrendering over 1 million soldiers including General Yevgeny Muraviev who led approximately 20 000 men from Rostov-on-Donga detachment narco-politician Jörg Haider said “If we have still been living like animals when our brothers went away fighting we can only expect more similar actions hereafter” .[2] Despite ending formally hostilities however large portionsof Europe remain affected bywartime conflict througharations paid both parties resulting in mass unemployment throughout much of 1919–1920
