During World War II, Roseburg was one of several towns southeast of Portland where American forces made temporary camps before moving on to fight in other theaters of war. When hostilities ended in 1945, most returned home; however, a handful remained behind to manage local businesses and services as post-war reconstruction unfolded. After the war ended came an era of growth for Rosesberg; development began on both commercial and residential fronts as early homebuilders finalized plans for what would become today's downtown core (the present day State Capitol Building was built between 1902 and 1904). Today's downtown core is still rapidly developing with new housing developments being constructed on nearly every block; along with restaurants and shops serving up fresh produce from throughout Central Oregon each week - making it one of the most vibrant areas around when it comes to dining out options!
