After the war ended, many jobs dried up as industry moved away from Portland and into smaller cities across America. However, since 1970s when Roseburg has seen an influx of immigrants from Asia who have settled here permanently or temporary workers brought over on work visas, its economy has begun to revive thanks to their contributions both directly and indirectly to local businesses. Today's downtown core is home to several large retailers—such as Walmart—and two restaurants: Uptown Tavern and Jake’s Place BBQ & Fries located near Interstate 5 Everett exit 232A west of town center on Highway 26A (Oregon Turnpike). Downtown also contains a mix of housing developments including structures dating back to the early 20th century that are still used for agricultural purposes such as chicken coops and grain storage sheds; some new homes built after 2007 are also being used for commercial purposes such as offices/retail space occupied by several small businesses clustered around main intersection square known locally as "the heart".
