The first firearms in Roseburg were pistols, shotguns, and rifles. The town was founded by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1847. The first store in town was built on the corner of Third and Alder Streets. In 1852, a post office was opened in Roseburg. The first school in town was built on lot 5 of the Agricultural Experiment Station in 1865. The name of the school was changed to Oregon State Normal School in 1875. In 1923, an armory was built at 701 Main Street. In 1951, a fire destroyed most of the buildings on Main Street within city limits and it closed down for good.
Roseburg is a small town in Eastern Oregon, located about an hour and a half east of Portland. The population was 7,362 at the2010 census. It is part of the Salem-Keizer, OR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Roseburg were members of the Umatilla tribe who arrived around 1775. They named their new land "Hood River" after one of their kinsmen, who had been killed by the British during the Seven Years' War. The town was platted in 1887 by John Quesnel and his brother Charles Quesnel as a stop on the Oregon Central Railroad. The community name derived from "rosa," meaning rosebush, because many of its early residents grew roses for local shops and homes. In 1932, when Roseburg incorporated as a city, it became one of only two communities in Oregon (the other being Bend) to receive city status without ever having experienced a mayor or council election. In 2006, City Councilmember Jeff Kruse was elected Mayor after winning an open seat following the resignation of incumbent Ray Kampman; Kruse has held office since then. Roseburg is home to several parks and public square which include Sweetwater Park (named for nearby Sweetwater Creek), Pioneer Square Park, North End Park and South End Park - all with Lake Oswego waterfront views - as well as State Street park which features Multi-purpose Athletic Fields used for both recreation and business purposes including Carver College's Men's Lacrosse team's home field since 2007; Roseburg High School also fieldsarsity lacrosse teams here; Cascade Bicycle Club operates racquetball courts within walking distance of many residences; there are also three golf courses within driving range: Pemaquid Golf Course adjacent to downtown Roseburg; Alsea Golf & Country Club near Interstate 5 exit 203 outside OFA boundaries; and Dunes Golf Course southeast of town off US 101 approximately 12 miles southwest of Portland..

Roseburg was founded in 1871 by John C. Fremont and his wife, Emma, as a small struggling town on the banks of the Willamette River. The population of Roseburg rapidly grew after gold was found at Siuslaw Creek in 1876, and the town became an important mining center for the region. By 1890, Roseburg had a population of over 6,000 people and it was designated as the regional capital of Oregon. In 1902, when Congress passed the Tax Act of 1902, which increased taxes on goods exported from Oregon, Roseburg petitioned for exemption from taxation. When this request was denied, the city decided to secede from Oregon and become an independent republic under its own government. In 1916, during World War I, Roseburg joined Allied forces and fought in Europe alongside other Northwest communities such as Seattle and Portland. After the war ended, many residents returned to their home towns and Rosesburg continued to grow slowly until it reached its current size in 1950. During its history, Rosesboro has experienced several significant events including becoming one of the first cities in Oregon to be served by television; hosting a number of world-renowned athletes during both summer Olympic Games (1904 & 1912); experiencing major growth when Interstate 5 was built through central Oregon; becoming a twin city with Bendigo California after their merger in 1997; being named one of "America's Top 25" places to live by Forbes Magazine in 2004; and most recently experiencing rapid growth due to advances within technology that has led to new businesses opening up throughout downtownRoseburg
