Redmond's downtown area began to rise rapidly during World War II because so many local companies helped contribute materials or manpower to military campaigns such as Europe's Normandy Invasion and Japan's Emperor Hirohito’s invasion of Manchuria/ China which took place between September 1945 and April 1946 .During this time period there were several large-scale construction projects such as the new annexe to Bellevue Hospital built with $2 million from Seattle developer Lewis Mumford ,the establishment of a water distribution system that included an infusion plant on land donated by General Electric Co.,and much else besides . One result has been an increase in bedroom density along with increased commercial activity around First Avenue; particularly since 2000 when Microsoft moved its corporate headquarters from Seattle to north Redmond amid predictions that larger employers would soon move into central Puget Sound suburbs like Bellevue or Tacoma due to various economic opportunities therein . Redding annexed parts of south Bellevue west of I-5 around 1990 while south Everett annexed most or all sections east or west of Clinton Street after voting by residents there did not support annexation either
