The town developed rapidly due to its location near two railroad lines: one ran through downtown Redding (now part of Salem) while another ran east-west through present-day Eugene andSpringfield before terminating at Redmond west of US Route 101. In 1886, Brigham Young arrived in what is now Josephine County with his Mormon Battalion from Utah and organized a new settlement near present-day Eugene called Harmonyville after his home state of Vermont where he had settled earlier that year seeking passage onto California's Gold Rush fleet under leadershipof John Davenport Jr.. The Harmonyville village failed to gain significant attention and reverted back to farm life by 1890; however, it served as an important center for trade withinJosephine County as well as centrality on Hwy 15 between Eugene and Portlandia during this time period; it also housed a jail from 1893 until 1901 when it was replaced by Redding jail In 1902, General Motors opened their facilities adjacent to Harmonville on land that would eventually become parts of Redmond In 1911–12, construction began on the first major northsouth expressway in Oregon named I-5 which connected Portland with Seattle via Everett On December 6th 1912 President Woodrow Wilson signed into law legislation proclaiming Oregon Territory within which Microsoft had been formed just days earlier This event helped spur further development around later renamed Redmond Park which surrounded Harmonville green fields whenceMicrosoft grew quickly into one of America's leading technology companies

Redmond, Oregon is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon, located on the Willamette River. Redmond was founded in 1851 by George Sibley and named after Washington County, Oregon's most populous county at the time. The population was 24,411 as of July 1, 2010. Redmond has been an predominantly rural community for most of its history, with only a small percentage of its residents living in the city during the early 21st century due to growth in nearby Beaverton and Hillsboro. Redmond's history can be traced back to 1851 when George Sibley arrived from Illinois with his family to found what would become Redmond. At that time, Washington County was one of the most populous counties in Oregon and contained a population of over 100,000 people. The first permanent settler in town were Sibley's brother-in-law and father-in-law Emmett Parkhurst and their two daughters - Almira (born 1847) and Rhoda (born 1850). Redmond was originally called "Aurora." In 1863 it changed again to "Redding." On December 8th 1870 Microsoft founder Paul Allen donated land for a school near present day Redmond Center Boulevard/Highway 97 south of Hastings Street; this donation formed the nucleus around which development occurred around Redding School District #1 post office on April 15th 1871 AD However due to rising costs associated with building schools within such an isolated area there wasn't enough money available until 1865 for Redding High School to open its doors however graduates did attend nearby Centralia Agricultural Institute until 1886 before moving into larger schools like Portland State College where they metamorphosed into university students For many years there wasn't even a post office between Redmond Center Boulevard/Highway 97 west of Hastings Street and Redmond Center Avenue so mail traveled either by wagon or horseback across country . One resident recalled: “It took weeks goin’ all over these hills havin’ no idea whar we were goin’ An lone letter come out o’ Bend sayin’ ‘All Clear Out Here! All Clear Out Here! We Are Moving Away From You Dear People But Thanks For lettin’ Us Know What Was GoIN’ On.' It made us feel pretty good about ourselves because we knew that somewhere out there somebody had send us some mail . . . ." In 1916 Postmaster General John Wickersham ordered all local post offices closed due to growing competition from more efficient interstate routes but this order was rescinded after resistance from local officials With increased transportation options came increased demand for goods sent through Redmond so by 1903 there were five stores surrounding the original school site along three blocks east of Third Avenue SE
