Redmond, Oregon is home to the Redmond Arsenal, one of the most important gun hammer history sites in the United States. The site was founded in 1884 by John A. Moffatt, who was a gunsmith and rifle dealer in Redmond. The arsenal was used to make and repair firearms and is still in use today. The first guns manufactured at the Redmond Arsenal were rifles and shotguns. over time, pistols also became common among shooters in the area. In 1907, John Moffatt organized a pistol Club at the arsenal, which helped spread firearms knowledge throughout Redmond. In 1925, Eugene Meyer purchased the arsenal and began making handguns there as well. Today, Eugene Meyer's descendants continue to operate the armory as it remains one of the most important sources of handgun history in Northwest America.
