Pendleton is a small town in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, United States. The population was 1,543 at the 2010 census. Pendleton is the most populous community in Multnomah County and one of the fastest-growing communities in Oregon. The first permanent settler in Pendleton was George Dallimore, who arrived on July 24, 1847. Dallimore was a farmer from Maine and he named his new town after himself, Pendleton Township. By 1860, there were only five residents living in Pendleton – all farmers or their families. However, by 1870, the population had swollen to over 100 people and by 1880 it had reached 150 people. In 1881, an act of Congress established Multnomah County and gave it its present boundaries including part of what is now Pendleton. The name "Multnomah" comes from two words: "multum," meaning many (noun), and "onomatopoeia," meaning voice or sound (verb). This area lay between Portland and Salem so the name made perfect sense because many products that constituted Multnomah County's economy came from this region such as wheat, hops, appleseed oil etc.- some would even say started here! In 1908 a post office called "Pendleton" was established but it closed within 5 years due to lack of business interest. In 1912 an incorporated village called Hastings opened up nearby with about 25 residents although it didn't last very long before closing down due to lack of support from its founders/owners/administrators- primarily because they couldn't agree on anything! In 1916 when Multnomah County became statehood we experienced our first professional football game as Bendigo against Yamhill which ended in a 20–0 victory for Bendigo! This event marked not only the beginning of professional football in Oregon but also signaled something big for Pendleton as well; finally somebody wanted us! It wasn't until 1924 that our first high school - Pacific High School - opened up which continued to grow through annexation by other smaller towns until eventually becoming fully independent in 1959...and still going strong today! During World War II heavy bombing raids took place over much of Portland causing great destruction both inside and outside of Pendleton; however no damage was done to our little town proper! However during 1945-1946 local residents did bravely take part in Operation Crossroads which aimed to save more than 2 million gallons (7000 m3) of water supplies used byPortland city boosters for irrigation needs- something that still leaves us grateful every time we see those beautiful old maps showing just how muchwater there once was available right here within our borders!!! Although we never saw any combat ourselves (thankfully!), everyone involved did go through some really tough times; thank you everyone who participated!! We can truly appreciate all that your country put into helping us during these chaotic days.....including your mayor’s offer for free houses if we could turn them into barracks!!! Needless to say thisOperation led directly to my appointment as Mayoralty Candidate 8 years later!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pendleton became a townsite in 1857 and a city in 1865. In 1917, the city of Pendleton merged with the town of Corvallis to form the present-day City of Portland.
