That year saw the opening of the first bank west of Interstate 80 and many retail businesses began to open throughout downtown areas such as The Gilded Cage grocery store and The Blue House restaurant; all were part of what would become known as Main Street Village shopping district today. Today's economy is based largely on agriculture but there are also several small businesses scattered throughout downtown which continue to serve as cultural attractions for locals and visitors alike.
