Pendleton, Oregon is a town in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 9,829 at the 2010 census. Pendleton is the county seat of Multnomah County. The Pendleton area has been inhabited by the Klamath and Deschutes tribes since before European contact. In 1851, George Washington Cowlitz built his house on what is now First Street in Pendleton to exploit coal resources near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. By 1853, about 100 people lived in what is today Pendleton. In 1865-66, traders from Portland built a bridge over the Columbia River at present-day downtown Pendleton to bring goods and passengers back and forth between Portland and Seattle; this Bridge was later destroyed by a flood in 1926. In 1892 commissioners voted to rename their town "Pendleton" after General Joseph Ewing's ranching settlement nearby called "Ewingville". However local residents objected to being called "Ewingsville", so they reverted back to their original name of Pendleton until 1903 when they again changed it to honor General Joseph Ewing (1839-1924). In 1924 general Pierce Butler turned over management of Joe Foss uranium mine in eastern Oregon to John Dutton (1863-1945) for development into one of America's largest uranium mines - Oneida shaft No. 2A - but tragically lost all his money in it within two years due to fraudulent business practices connected with its construction On July 11th 1951 an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter Scale struck central Oregon causing major damage including part of downtown Pendleton which collapsed onto First Street where many people were killed or trapped inside buildings that had been hastily erected without proper safety measures100 people were also injured as well as more than $2 million worth of property damage done mostly around Alderwood Park which still stands today across from Central Union UniversitySUU closed down after that quake however some students continued attending classes through email/phone class materials until late fall 2002 before finally giving up during winter 2003 when no school reopened because then there was barely enough work for teachers . Asbestos contamination from abandoned coal mines located just outside town made inhabitants develop respiratory problems such as asthma especially among elderly citizens For many years there have been rumors about how arsenic levels are high enough near some old anthracite coal Mine sites that health risks might be posed even though tests have not yet confirmed these suspicions There have also been rumors circulating about possible health dangers associated with various types of explosives used at various construction sites throughout town although those reports are unconfirmed either

Pendleton is a town in Pendleton County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The Pendleton Manufacturing Company was founded in 1887 by John G. Pendleton and his brother-in-law, George H. Smith. In 1907, the company merged with two other companies to form the International Harvester Corporation (IHC). The IHC built some of the first large housing developments in Oregon and developed a variety of industries including automobiles, mining, printing and sawmills. In 1984, IHC merged with Massey Ferguson to become Massey-Ferguson Corporation. The town was platted on May 20th 1861 by Jno Crain and James McMurray as an agricultural center for settlers who had recently arrived from eastern Canada via wagon train. On July 10th 1863 Major General Nathaniel Lyon laid claim to land east of what is now Pendleton when he discovered gold near present day Bendigo Junction on Umatilla River due to its location between two mountains: Mount Hood to the north and Mount Adams to the south. Today's town began as a small cluster of homes around that gold discovery site which soon grew into a small but thriving community during its early years; many residents still live there today! In 1887 John G Pendleton formed Pendleton Manufacturing Company after discovering gold near Bendigo Junction on Umatilla River; this initial business venture led to growth for both him and his brother-in-law George H Smith who became president of the company soon thereafter! In 1907 International Harvester Corporation bought out all three partners in pendletons manufacturing company resulting in increased production capacity across various industries! After experiencing numerous economic downturns throughout their history massey Ferguson Holdings Incorporated successfully negotiated acquisition by PBF Energy Limited effective March 2nd 2014 which included operations within refinery & petrochemical sectors while retaining significant portions of assets including main factory buildings located within current city limits! Aspects of this transaction include 3M’s affiliation with PBF Energy Limited through their wholly owned subsidiary 3M Northwest LLC until such time as such entity achieves regulatory clearances from Canadian authorities subject thereto3M also retains majority ownership interest in Power Equipment Parts Incorporated which provides engineering/manufacturing services within oil exploration and production industry
The first settlement in Pendleton was made in 1847. The town was named after the brother of the founder, George Pendleton. The community grew quickly and by 1875 it had a population of 350 people. In 1902, Pendleton became a city and has since grown to over 10,000 residents.
