The mill continued operating until 1917 when it closed because of low lumber prices due to World War I restrictions on imports into America; however, local residents continue to use the mill building as a museum today. The city's earliest economic development came with construction activity around 1900-1910 centered around an agricultural fairgrounds which included an arena and exhibition hall used by various sports teams from nearby Portland during those years; other activities include retailing and light industry before Interstate 5 arrived in 1958 and caused significant shifted focus towardsPortland .

In 1892 he married Fannie Henshaw Pendleton (1859-1936), who had come to live with him in western Oregon two years earlier when she married someone else while living at her mother’s house near Allianceford Junction (now Astoria). She soon began helping her husband operate their farmstead – initially just feeding the animals but later also growing crops such as wheat and potatoes under irrigation systems provided by John A.: improvements that allowed them to export some of their products back home across the river at night so that they could sell goods from their land before dawn next morning: this gave rise to what is now known as “pumping night” agriculture! Fannie continued working at home until 1906 when she retired from her job as cashier at Union Pacific Railroad Depot #1 (now part of Portland State University). From then until her death six years later she spent most days writing letters home from work – many of which still survive today! Her husband did not die until 1951 – making him one of only two Portlanders everto have died within five decades of founding our beloved city! In 1907 John A.: moved his family westward alongOregon Trail towards what would become Castle Rock where they established their new homesteading venture called The Lumber Millinery Company Ltd., which operated out West for twenty years before selling off all assets including millsite property eastward around 1950….John A passed away on January 25th 1942″ (Atkinson 2011: 9).
