By October 10th, he had erected five buildings - a storehouse, millinery shop/harvesting shed/cabins (later known as "the fort"), ferryboat landing (now part of MAX Station), and two churches - within what is now Pioneer Square downtown area today. 1st Methodist Episcopal Church: This church was built in 1845 on land donated by generous local citizens who saw promise inCaptain Cook's fledgling community idea of developing a "Christian village" near Puget Sound which could provide work opportunities for local manpower while still remaining accessible from all directions!
