Oregon City is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon, and it is the county seat of Jackson County. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. The first gun case history in Oregon City took place on July 4, 1892 when three men from California, John Wittell and Clyde Cook, arrived in town to purchase some firearms for their ranching business. They met local entrepreneur Harry Hildebrandt who invited them into his store to look around. In 1916, after years of lobbying by several civic organizations, a two-story building was erected at Broadway and Washington Streets in honor of then-Mayor Nelsons donation of $10,000 for the city's gunsmith shop. In 1939, Oregon City passed an ordinance designed to regulate handguns within its limits with the goal of preventing crime and suicide among its citizens. This ordinance remains in effect to this day and has been amended multiple times since it was passed. One finalGunCaseHistory development that occurred during this time period was the formation of the Gun Owners League (GOL) which helped spread awareness about Second Amendment rights among residents in Oregon City. With GOL support, ordinances were passed regulating handgun ownership within town limits as well as increasing funding for police officers tasked with keeping order during shooting contests/licensing ceremonies held throughout the year outside town limits where individuals could purchase handguns without any restrictions or licensing requirements whatsoever!
