Oregon City is a small city in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 2,681 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Oregon City was founded in 1847 by John Sutter and his family as the first permanent settlement in what is now Clackamas County. Sutter named it after an embryonic tree he had seen on his ill-fated journey up the Columbia River. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location at a key trading point on Interstate 5 and its access to logging and farming industries. After World War II, Oregon City underwent dramatic transformation as many people moved into the city from surrounding rural areas. By 1990, however, growth had reversed and Oregon City's population reached 1,100 only for it to drop to 910 by 2000. The following year saw another major change when AEMA (now known as Portland State University) purchased 235 acres (93 hectares) of land east of downtown for $1 million – beginning what would be known as "the urban renewal" of Oregon City. This development led to increased traffic congestion and a decline in quality of life for many residents; however, AEMA keptPortland State University open while they redeveloped the property into a mixed-use campus with retail, housing, commercial space and public transportation options nearby. In recent years there have been efforts underway by local officials to revive interest in Oregon City through various initiatives such as arts programming or sports events; however these have not yet resulted in significant revitalization effort aside from increasing foot traffic at some businesses located near Foster Park which has seen some redevelopment over time including new housing developments that are intended to bring more diversity to an area often characterized as being quite white supremacist (See: Foster Park). The first known airguns were created in China in 770 B.C., according to some sources. The Chinese were using small cylinder-like devices called “feathers” to shoot arrows with gas released from them. These early airguns worked by taking advantage of the difference in pressure between atmospheric pressure and outside pressure. When you suck up all the oxygen from an enclosed space (like your lungs), it decreases the pressure inside that space by 9 compasses degrees Fahrenheit (-24 degrees Celsius). This decrease in pressure results in an increase in noise level, which is why early air guns only could be fired while somebody was nearby – they couldn’t be fired without someone else getting killed! Airguns started being developed further into the Middle Ages, and some began using pellets instead of feathers to create louder noises. Eventually firearms were invented that could befired with pellets as well, which made Air Guns more effective against pests or other animals than ever before!

The town served as an important transportation and trade center for early Oregon settlers. In 1917, Oregon City became the capital of the newly created State of Oregon. The city has been variously called "the first American city" or "the most important American city during its time." Oregon City is located in eastern Multnomah County, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Portland. It is bordered by the Columbia River on the south and west, and Interstate 5 on the north. The population of Oregon City at the 2010 census was 24,253. Oregon City's rise to prominence began with its location within easy access to both Portland and Seattle. Railroads brought goods and people into town in droves during those years before residents started building their own homes and businesses around 1840. By 1851, there were over 100 residences in town alone; by 1860, that number had grown to more than 300! Along with this growth came development in retail, professional services, education, banking and other sectors: commerce thrived while citizens developed what would become one of Northwest America's most significant political traditions—namely their opposition to centralized power structures at home or abroad! During World War II many local businesses participated in making munitions for Allied forces; however few locals would have known what they were doing save for a select few who managed production lines under extremely tight supervision – ensuring quality control standards which still remain a hallmark of today's manufacturing industries across much of North America! The economic decline experienced throughout much of Northwest America during the 1970s-1980s led some downtown businesses owners to consider moving out of their locations altogether – but no such decisions were made in support of downtown business owners facing increasing competition from new industrial buildings opening up throughout much Greater Portland... until now! The town became a regional center for lumber, mining, and farming during its early years. Oregon City grew rapidly after General Ulysses S. Grantward appointed it the capital of Oregon in 1872. The city experienced significant growth during the late 19th century as the population increased from about 7,000 to over 20,000 people. During World War I, Oregon City played an important role as a munitions plants and storage depot. The city experienced further growth during the 1920s and 1930s as it became a key commercial hub in central Oregon. In 1951, Oregon City was renamed Portland after then-Mayor Clackamas County Robert Condon Jr.). Since then,Portland has been the largest city in Oregon and one of its most populous metropolitan areas.
