Newberg, Oregon is a small town in the Willamette Valley of oregon. The town was founded by George Addison Newberg in 1887 when he and his family set out from Portland to make their new home. George's original homestead was located on the east side of the Willamette River. Newberg died in 1915, but his son John Addison Newberg continued to live and work in the town until his death in 1984. The Addington-Newberg House still stands today as one of the few remaining buildings from early pioneer days at Newberg. George Addison Newberg's father had come over with wagonloads of goods from British Columbia during the Gold Rush era and established himself as a trader in what is now December 16th District, Oregon Territory. In 1885, George and his wife Lillie had moved westward from Portland and started a family here with their two children, Emmett (1885) and Minnie (1887). The addition of another child - John - only made things worse for both families since there wasn't enough room for all six kids on their own small farmstead. So they decided to move again: this time to what is now Albany, Oregon where they bought an acreage south of the city Limits then built themselves a log cabin which they named "The Farm" after their youngest daughter Maynard's first name (Minnie). They raised chickens, pigs, cattle, horses and hogs on that land until 1895 when they sold it to Tom Pickering who built a store near present day Downtown Newberg. Emmett Addison Newberg became involved with local politics here while working as librarian for school board member Elisha Klayman before being elected Mayor of Salem County, Oregon Territory in 1912. He served one term before becoming State Senator from Oregon 1916-1920 concurrent with Harry Hines who succeeded him as U.S Congressman from Salem County 1920-1924; however he never ran for office again other than serving on various boards including those overseeing public education & libraries etc.. John Addison Newberger also held political aspirations eventually winning election as Mayor of Salem County 1922-1926 then serving four terms until he retired due to age at 55 years old; he would later become Deputy Sheriff under Earl Warren during World War II behind enemy lines helping liberate Japan From Imperial Japanese forces! Newberg, Oregon was founded in 1847 by George W. Newberg and his family. The town was named for the Newberg River which runs through the area. The first settlers were farmers who had to travel long distances to get their produce to market. By 1850, the population of Newberg had grown to about fifty people and the town began to develop its own economy. In 1862, a school was built in the town and it soon became a popular spot for education in Oregon. In 1875, Newberg became an incorporated community with a government which consisted of a mayor and six members of the board of trustees. The town continued to grow and by 1902 it had reached its current size with a population of around two thousand people.
