In 1898, Eugene W. Barnes and his brother-in-law, A.A. Barnes, founded the Oregon Ammunition Company in Newberg, Oregon. The company was started to make ammunition for the U.S. Cavalry and artillery units stationed in the Portland area at that time. At first, the company made rounds of small caliber shot and projectiles called “buckshot” which were used by hunters and gamekeepers for target shooting purposes only. In 1902, the company became a full-fledged munitions manufacturer with a new factory built on State Street in Newberg. The new factory produced shells of all calibers for use by artillery and cavalry units as well as muzzleloaders and shotguns from 1903 until 1936 when it was merged into United Arms Corporation (UAC). Newberg, Oregon is a small town located in the Willamette Valley region of Oregon. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. Newberg is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The history of Newberg begins with two families who settled there in 1851. The first settlers were John and Julia Goodrich, who moved from Illinois to start a family in what is now Newberg. They had six children and one daughter died young while she was still young enough to be married. Their son Jesse Goodrich took over the farm where they grew up and started raising crops until he sold it to his brother-in-law, Hiram Cobb, in 1875. In 1879, Samuel Morse bought land adjacent to what is now downtown Newberg from Hiram Cobb for $1,000 dollars cash. Morse built a house on this land and named it "Morse's Store". He continued to operate the store until 1903 when he passed away. His wife Sarah kept the store until her death in 1916. In 1925, Mr. and Mrs.(Lillian) Neuman bought Morse's Store from their widow and continued operations as "Neuman's" until they divorced in 1961. After Lillian Neuman's divorce, her husband Harry changed its name to "Newberg Hardware" which continues today as one of Oregon's leading hardware stores with over 100 employees inside and out ofPortlandia! Newlywed couple Peggy (who would later become Ms.) Greer (1932-) & Roy Griggs (1935-) opened their own grocery/onderground market called The Greers after moving into town from Bendigoile Missouri just before Christmas 1950! A new post office was built on SE 3rd Ave by Mrs.(Gertrude) Kappos which opened Jan 1st 1951! It served as PO box for many years before finally being torn down c1994 due to fire damage!! successor - Community Bank building on NE 4th Ave which reopened Sept 24th 1997!

Newberg, Oregon is a small town located in the Wasatch Mountains of southeastern Oregon. The population was 1,852 as of the 2010 census. Newberg was founded in 1892 by Professor George Washington Smith and his wife, Evalyn Halsey Newberg. The town derived its name from Reverend Newberg, an Mormon missionary who had come to the area in 1881. Newberg became a city on April 12, 1907 when it incorporated as a result of a referendum vote. The city was named after George Washington Smith's daughter-in-law Evalyn Halsey Newberg. After her death in 1958, she bequeathed $10 million to help finance downtown redevelopment projects. Today, most of downtown is devoted to shops and services centered around the library and the Methodist church which are both significant tourist attractions. The history of Newberg can be traced back over two hundred years to Captain John Wolfe's initial exploration of what is now southeastern Oregon during his 1769 expedition under Captain James Cook IV.'s command! In 1892 Professor George Washington Smith purchased 640 acres near present day Newberg from southern Paiute Chief David Hunter for $5 per acre! This land included much that would later become part of the current city limits – including what is now Northeast 20th Avenue SW! With this purchase came new opportunities for growth as it opened up new grazing lands for cattle and sheep production; along with access to rivers and streams which would prove important for irrigation purposes decades later! In 1906 Mayor Harry Wiggin established a fire department which still operates today; he also funded construction of streetscape improvements that are still visible today including Northeast 20th Avenue SW between NE First Street NW and SE Second Street NW! These efforts helped makeNewberg one of the most vibrant cities in eastern Oregon; with businesses such as Weiser Rubber & Rubber Co., J&J Glasses Agency Inc., American Tobacco Company (now Altria Group), Applebee’s restaurant and more opening up throughout the 1920s!! On January 6, 1941 Dr. William Shockley made history when he became first Urologist practicing outside California when he moved to Portland from Eugene to open a practice at 935 NE Third Ave.; Shockley would eventually establish himself as oneofthe leading specialists in urology throughout western Oregon!! He would continue practicing here until his death on October 5, 1984!!! In 1957 Mayor Harry Wiggin established Council Chambers across from City Hall where ordinances were passed and treaties ratified; these chambers remain an important part of local government today!
