The school operated out of a single building on Third Street between Waverly and Harrison Streets for thirty-five years, until it moved to its current location in 2006. During its time at Third Street, the Milwaukie School of Telescopes helped develop many talented astronomers including Dr. Don Armstrong, Dr. Clifford Berryman, Dr. Fred Hoyle, and many others who went on to become leading figures in their fields. In addition to teaching students about astronomy, the school also hosted a variety of events such as public lectures and sky Shows throughout the year.
Milwaukie is a city in the central Oregon Coast Range, United States. The population was 19,846 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lane County. The land that would become Milwaukie was first settled by fur traders in 1837-38 as part of a route to the Oregon Territory. In 1845, when Washington and Oregon became independent states, Milwaukie became the Territorial Capital of Lane County. The original town site lay on what is now Southwest First Street and Northwest Third Avenue between State Street and University Boulevard; it had a population of only about 50 people. A post office operated from 1847 to 1850 at what is now Southeast Sixth Avenue and Northeast Seventh Street; it had a population of about 10 people. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Lane County was created from parts of Multnomah County including Milwaukie. The new county courthouse was built on First Street in downtown Milwaukie and served as the county seat until 1865 when Portland replaced Lane County as its capital. By 1890, most businesses in downtown Milwaukie were either small or discontinued because of competition from larger towns such as Portland or Salem across the river in Oregon City and Salem respectively. However, some businesses continued to operate until around World War II when they were acquired by other businesses or closed down due to new technology or marketing shifts which changed consumer tastes then and still today。 After World War II many factory jobs left town for cheaper places such as Beaverton or Hillsboro while others moved back into town after retirement but have since vacated because economic conditions have changed so much since then − especially with respect to housing prices which continue to rise ().
