The history of shooting target holders begins in Milwaukie, Oregon. The first targets were used by the citizens of Milwaukie to practice their marksmanship. In 1892, a man named Edwin Bigham developed a system to hold target shooters’ balls on long rods and let them fall off as they fired. This system became known as the “Bigham system.” The Bigham system was later improved by J.B. Gregg and his son, John Bigham Gregg Jr., in 1926. The Gregg system consisted of two sets of short rods that were connected by a band, which allowed the balls to be held on each rod for repeated fire opportunities at different distances from the target. From 1927 until 1934, J.B. Gregg ran a firing range in Milwaukie that was used by many local gunsmiths and riflemen for training purposes and competition shooting matches. During this time, several other gunmen also developed various systems to hold targets: Easley’s method involved using four long poles with round ends that could be easily manipulated; White’s device consisted of an old coffee can with a hole drilled in it at one end; Wimmer’s innovation involved suspending several small metal cans from overhead wires; and Schenck-Lambertt utilized an old barrel filled with lead pellets that could be discharged through a small aperture at one end into the back side of thetarget (known as an iron sights). In 1938, Milwaukie residents George Amenta and Leroy Garton filed Patent 7,382,191 for the use of Shooting Target Holders or “Targets Hangers” which became commonly accepted among American shooters during World War II becauseof their convenience when carrying Targets around town or hunting down larger game animals such as deer or bear

Milwaukie is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Milwaukie was Washoe Creek Indian Nation member John Day in 1847. He and his family built a cabin on the banks of Washoe Creek and began farming crops near their settlement. In 1850, another group of Washoe Creek Indians founded the town of Milwaukie on land that they had acquired from the government for public use. The name "Milwaukie" comes from an Algonquian word meaning "place where we gathered mushrooms." In 1860, David Miller arrived in Milwaukie with his family to start a flour mill and farmyard. The town grew rapidly and by 1870 it included a hotel, grocery store, grain elevator, schoolhouse, two churches (the First Methodist Episcopal Church and then the Baptist Zion Church), four businesses (a flour mill, brewery, meatpacking house/market, tannery), and twelve residents. By 1880 there were nineteen businesses in Milwaukie with a total payroll of $10 million dollars; twenty-six people worked at each business! Thetown experienced rapid growth during its early years but eventually declined as transportation became more available and easier to get to other parts of Oregon outside Multnomah County. However, due to its strategic location withinMultnomah County - close to both Portland and Salem - Milwaukie continued to thrive as an agricultural center until after World War II when production shifted westward into Oregon's high desert region due to new technological advances such as synthetic oil production beginning in 1944 at Willamette National Laboratory which led to increased demand for water supplies needed for factory operations over land that had once been farmland
