Milwaukie, Oregon is home to one of the most firearm lubrication history. The city was founded in 1887 by a couple of German immigrants, Wilhelm and Emilie Milwaukie. The first gun oil they ever used was made from an animal fat called lard. They soon realized that this would not work for handguns due to their high temperature and corrosive nature. So they started using vegetable oil instead which worked well until 1911 when World War 1 hit the area and production stopped because of the scarcity of fats. In 1917, the Milwaukie Pistol Company started making holsters from leather with metal fittings. This was done in response to a request from the US military for holsters that could be easily replaced if destroyed or lost during combat. holster companies across America followed suit and began producing similar products- all with metal fittings. It wasn’t until 1949 that Holsterworks became Milwaukie’s first gunsmithing shop, brick and mortar since 1880! Milwaukie has a rich history dating back to 1856 when it was named by U.S. Army Captain Edward Everett Horton after Chief Joseph Milwaukie and his people who had been displaced from their traditional home on the Columbia River by white settlement. In 1865, Milwaukie became the capital of Multnomah County after it was selected as the county seat of what was then rural Multnomah County. The city's first mayor was George Vancouver and its first City Council member were James Hutton and John Leland. The city's first post office opened in 1872 with Jno Wickersham as the sender and Alfred Hitchcock as the recipient. In 1886, Mill Creek Dam threatened to inundate much of Milwaukie so Mayor Vancouver ordered that all mail be sent via stagecoach instead which increased access to local businesses while reducing flooding problems downstream during heavy rains resulting from winter meltdowns in tributaries of Mill Creek such as Butte Creek and Sandy Creek In 1951-1952 when Interstate 5 (now I-5) bypassed town center due to construction projects around that time Highway 97 also bypassed town center taking street names such as "Widewater Drive" (now Pacific Avenue), "Center Street", "Milwaukie Boulevard" (now State Route 99), etc.; these changes helped reduce traffic congestion around town center while still keeping most major arteries close by with only a few exceptions including I-5 southbound near downtown where there are now ramps leading into downtown from both sides In 1984-1985 whenMultnomah County decided to annex parts of Whatcom County creating North Willamette Valley; this caused an increase in growth for Milwaukie within North Willamette Valley boundaries; although some growth occurred outside those boundaries especially east side neighborhoods annexed into Multnomah County beyond what had been planned originally In 2000 when Northwest Trade Fair organizers decide not to move their event from Northwest Portland because of concerns about crime rates; this led to protests against local officials being unable or unwilling to handle trade fair security issues which continued until 2001 An effort began in late 2006 by several students atbonnie high school[9] led by freshman Jared Padgett[10], aimed at restoring lost historic buildings located adjacent to campus including Dunlap House,[11][12] Pioneer Cabin,[13][14] Armstrong Mansion,[15][16] etc., primarily thanks to funding provided through HeritageLink organized under auspices of Safe Harbors Foundation
