Milwaukie, Oregon is a city located in the Willamette Valley of the United States. The city was founded on May 25, 1851 by John Sutter and his brother-in-law, George C. Smith. The first gunsmith in town was Wm. H. Burgess who had opened a shop at Tenth and Alder Streets in 1851. In 1862, Milwaukie became the county seat of Multnomah County and Wm. H. Burgess left to open his own store at Fourth and Fremont Streets which lasted until 1870 when it burned down. In 1967, Milwaukie incorporated as a city and continues to have its own police department today with over 100 officers and 9 fire departments
