From 1977 until 1990, the Town Council operated a store called The Telescope Shop which was located on Main Street between SW First Avenue and SW Second Avenue. Since2005, there have been several efforts to revive interest in buying scools from locally owned dealerships. He built a log cabin on what is now Duckett Street and called it "The Gilded Cage." In 1872, Captain George Hmedford died at age 69 years old while operating "The Gilded Cage." His widow continued to operate the store until her death in 1922; theningleship ownership passed through her daughter before passing down to her son-in-law's children (until 1948 when it changed hands again). The store continued operations as an independent business until 1978 when it was closed due to financial difficulty by its last owner (an affiliate of Jardine Matheson Holdings Inc.) In 1978, medford city council approved plans by Jardine Matheson Holdings Inc., an affiliate of News Corporation Ltd., for redevelopment of downtown Medford into a high-tech center employing over 1,000 people including 120 engineers working on developing new software products and services for Jardine Matheson Holdings Inc.'s various businesses across six campuses spread across three states - Oregon, Washington and California - making it one of largest technology employer clusters worldwide at that time . On October 6th 1978 medford’s Main Street reopened following five years of renovation/modification which included installation of a new sidewalk cafe & parking garage adjacent to City Hall where street vendors could display their wares during daytime hours only; & removal or relocation of several large local businesses – many having been located within 200 feet or lessof City Hall – all under one roof since its creation
