Airguns have been around for centuries, and in Oregon at least some of them date back to the early 1800s. In Medford, there are two types of airguns that are especially associated with this state: the Lever Action Airgun and the Shotgun. The Lever Action Airgun is an old-fashioned firearm that is fired by a lever that is turned by hand. The Shotgun, on the other hand, is one of the newer types of airguns and was developed in Oregon in the 1930s. It uses small rounds that are pumped into a barrel using a shotgun cocking mechanism. The history of airguns in Oregon can be traced back to 1848 when pioneers discovered firearms along the west coast of America. At first these firearms were used for hunting game animals such as deer or ducks, but over time they became used more for target shooting at ranges. In 1857, Oregon passed an act legalizing handguns and shotguns, making these rifles and pistols available to all citizens without Restrictions from local governments or social clubs. This led to passage of the Gun Control Act which banned all street shootings with pistols except during organized law enforcement operations (Lambert). A few years later in 1903 another act was passed which regulated handgun possession within limits set by local governments (Fowler). Today there are thousands ofairguns scattered throughout Oregon thanks to laws designed to protect both consumers and shooters alike. Many people enjoy using airguns recreationally while others use them in law enforcement or military applications depending on what type of firearm they prefer (Harding/Moses). Medford, Oregon is a small town located in Multnomah County, Oregon. The population was 2,584 at the 2010 census. Medford was founded in 1847 and became an incorporated city in 1907. The name of the town comes from the nearby Mount Hood National Forest. The first inhabitants of what is now Medford were Native Americans who lived along the banks of the Willamette River. In 1847, John Day traveled through Multnomah County and saw potential for settlement on the west side of Hood River where he named one of his properties "Medford". A post office called Medford was established in 1851, but no buildings were built until 1907 when it moved to its current location at 5th and Main Streets. In 1911, Multnomah County completed construction on Interstate 5 which passed through Medford and connected it with Portland. As a result of this highway development, business around Medford began to grow as people drove to larger cities for work or education. This growth led to new housing developments being built along I-5, such as the Sawmill Village complex which still stands today. From 1974 until 1999, Medford experienced significant change due to several rounds of redevelopment led by Mayor Chuck Fletcher spearheaded by then-County Commissioner Donny Youngbloods effort known as "The Borough Project." This project aimed to improve public transportation options within downtownMedford while also creating new retail and dining opportunities; some notable projects included renovation of City Hall into a modern building and addition of a high school football stadium/community center into downtown business district that has since been renamed Park West Mall after Fletcher's predecessor Bud Selig
The early history of Medford, Oregon was as follows: the area that is now Medford was first settled in 1847 by the Pacific Northwest Company. The company built a trading post and small settlement on the Nehalem River. By 1850, the company had outgrown its original holdings and decided to move its operations eastward into what is now Washington County. In 1851, the company founded what is today Portland. In 1853, a group of settlers from Boston founded a town in present-day Salem. The following year, Portland was officially incorporated as a city.
