dusk, 3rd of march 1897. A small group of men and boys were out for a walk in the rural area of Mcminnville when they came across an animal caught in between two trees. The man who had caught the animal decided to take it home and cook it before releasing it into the woods. As he was cooking, he noticed something moving in the shadows and soon enough there was a dark figure standing over him with a deadly pistol drawn! The man screamed for help as the figure pulled the trigger, killing him instantly. Unknown to anyone at that time, thiswas one of Oregon's first murder cases with a weapon flashlight being used to commit suicide as part of the plan!

The town of Mcminnville, Oregon was founded in 1887 by John A. McNaught and his wife Comma (Higgins) McNaught. The McNaughts were Presbyterians who had emigrated from Ireland. The town grew quickly, and by 1901 it had a population of 505 people. In 1912, the McNaughts sold their business to the Pemberton family, who continued to run it until 1974. The Pemberton family built a large addition to the original store building in 1914. The addition is now called the John A. and Comma McNaught House Museum. Mcminnville has a rich history that goes back to its early days as a small community on the banks of the Willamette River. It is interesting to note that many of the people who founded Mcminnville still live in the town today- including John A. McNaught himself! One of Mcminnville's most notable achievements was its role as an important stop on the old Oregon Trail. For many years, this was also one of its main attractions for visitors; during World War II, it served as an air raid shelter for local residents during bombing raids over Portland! Today, Mcminnville remains a busy small town with plenty of things to do and see; it is known for its annual Pie Festival which takes place in May, and for its vibrant art scene which includes several prominent artists living in nearby Salemburg.

After the war ended in 1945, the town began to decline; its population decreased by half between 1950 and 1970. However, due to gentrification efforts launched by residents in the late 1990s and 2000s, Mcminnville has begun to recover slightly since then; its population has reached 150 people again as of 2019.
The first Europeans to visit the area were fur traders in the early 1800s. In 1839, Mcminnville was founded by Capt. James Simpson as a trading post on the Deschutes River. It became an important center for lumber and stagecoach transportation, and was home to a number of businesses including a mill, store, and railroad station. The town declined after World War II because of its lack of industry, but has been reborn as a small community in recent years.
