Mcminnville is a town in McMinn County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro, OR-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that became Mcminnville was first settled by families from eastern Washington and Oregon in 1857. In 1863 the first post office was in operation here. The name "Mcminnville" was given to the place because of its location on the old McNary Road between Eastern Oregon and southern Washington Territory. In 1868, when gold came to this region, many people started coming here looking for it. By 1870 there were over 100 residents here. At that time most of these people were miners who had come down from the Cascade Mountains to try their luck at finding gold nearby. During World War I, many soldiers found themselves staying in McMinnville while they served in Europe or elsewhere. As a result, many businesses and residences were built here during those years such as a munitions plant and an ammunition depot operated by American Arms Company which still stands today on East Main Street near Interstate 5 (now called Powell Boulevard). This business got its start as a small store run by James Pogue across from Central High School until he went out of business around 1915 when Walmart bought American Arms Company's assets including Pogue's store property! The current building date back to 1926 with one addition - a two story brick school building which housed local public schools from 1925 until 1983 when they moved into their present building on Northeast 2nd Avenue just east of Hawthorne Boulevard! Today much of what used to be downtown McD minnville has been replaced with new development such as: 1) A new shopping mall called Regency Center whichopened in 2009 located about half way between Interstate 5 & I-5 Bridge; 2) A large movie theater chain called Regal Cinemas opened up shop next door across from City Hall Plaza; 3) A Hilton hotel called Regency Ballroom opened up next door in early 2013; 4) Another large hotel - this time known as ShangriLa – just northwest of town center

This type of shotgun was called a "slungshot." It became an important center for trade and commerce, hosting a number of businesses including an flour mill, sawmill, grocery store, bank and post office. The city also hosted several festivals which attracted people from all over northwestern Oregon. In addition to its economic importance, Mcminnville also played a significant role inOregon history. In 1916, when World War I began, Mcminnville was thrust into the war effort with unprecedented speed. With few other options available to them, the residents organized themselves into companies and worked tirelessly to support their countrymen on battlefields across Europe. After World War I ended, many replaced their wartime commander with veterans who desired to rebuild society for everyone instead of just those at the top-end of society like themselves In 1919-1920, McMinnvillians supported passage of Measure 97 which funded numerous projects within downtown including new streets and sidewalks; renovation or reconstruction of old buildings; creation or expansion of parks; installation or replacementof lights throughout town; improvement or installationof plumbing systems;and more Among these projects was construction work on what is now called “the Loop”-an artery connecting downtown with various neighborhoods east and west thereof-which is still one Of Portland’s most famous tourist attractions today
Mcminnville, Oregon was founded in 1847 by George Washington McDonald and his wife Lucy. The town was named for the two brothers who had helped to found it, Mcdonald and McNairy. It wasigham County's second largest settlement after Portland. The first post office in the community was established in 1850, and by 1854 it had a population of seventy-six people. In 1857 the local mill started up and produced flour for the city of Portland. In 1865, McDonald built a sawmill which continued to be in operation until 1952. The mill also manufactured other goods such as lumber and hardware. In 1907, McDonald donated land to build a public school which still operates today.
