Mcminnville is a town in Hood River County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Willamette River between Salem and Portland. The first European to explore this area was David Thompson in 1805. He named it "Mackinac" after his brother-in-law, Mackenzie Clark of Vancouver Island. A post office called Mcminnville was established in 1837, and remained in operation until 1909. The town site was laid out by John McLaughlin in 1854 after he bought from the Lapham family land grants northeast of what is now Mcminnville. McLaughlin had come to the region during the California Gold Rush and founded a flour mill at McMinnville before moving on to found other businesses here including a sawmill and wagon trade route across Hood River Valley. In 1907, when an act creating Hood River County was approved by Congress, McMinnville became one of its first townships. In 1912, a fire destroyed much of downtown but not before giving rise to the nickname "the city burn." A new courthouse and jail were built on State Street within two years of each other (1915) as part of an effort by then-Governor Alfredode Bandon to improve conditions for residents living near state government buildings north of Salem. The old courthouse burned down in 1951; only its foundation still stands along State Street today as part of evidence about early civic life in nearby Salem. In 1945–46 McCready Girls’ School closed due to low enrollment; however, classes continued at nearby Jordan High School until that school's closure too following World War IIometime around 1947 or 1948 because there wasn't enough space for both schools at once On October 5th 1949 local resident Arti Hecht organized a meeting which resulted with her purchasing property east side of Main Street from Mrs Wanda Smith which she used as her home until her death late last year...the name “Arti Hecht” has been retained by this community since then

McMinnville is a small town in Oregon, located near the confluence of the Willamette and Snake Rivers. The community was founded in 1868 by John W. Mc Minn and his wife, Eliza C. McNaught. It became an unincorporated community in 1909. The town was named for Reverend Robert B. McMinn, who served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Portland from 1865 to 1875. The Alford family bought the land around Mc Minnville in 1886, and subdivided it into lots for settlers to come and build homes. By 1912, there were more than 100 people living in McMinnville. When World War I began, many Americans traveled to Europe to help fight on the side of France and Germany. Some of these soldiers brought their families with them, and some left their families behind to live in various towns across America before returning home later that year. One such soldier was Captain Robert Balfour (1863-1946), who arrived in Oregon on July 3rd, 1915 with his unit at Fort Huachuca on Arizona's Tucson Peninsula[1]. He had been recruited from Trinity College,[2] where he had been a mathematics major before enlisting as a private first class into Company A of the 7th Infantry Regiment (Heavy)of the United States Army[3]. Captain Balfour soon found himself stationed at Fort McLoughlin on Hood River Island after being transferred from Armistice Hill,[4]: so when he learned about a school for girls established by Mrs. Sarah Eells-Boyd (1867-1927) in what is now McMinnville, he decided to check it out.[5]: After arriving at Fort McLoughlin on October 14th 1914,[6], Captian Balfour set up camp amongthe civilian population until he received orders march back home two weeks later; but because of World War I arrangements made by President Woodrow Wilson prior to war declaration he was not allowed back into combat[7]: So instead he returned home via Seattle where he disembarked his ship on November 6th 1915 aboard USS Constitution[8][9]: After leaving Hawaii Captain Robert Balfour reached San Francisco Bay Area on November 15th 1915 after spending over two months travelling through several ports including Panama City and Yap Island
Mcminnville was founded in 1853 by John and Mary Ann McNeely. The McNeely family ran a grocery store on the east side of town until 1865 when they moved to the west side. In 1876, the McNeely brothers donated land for what is now the University of Oregon campus.
