Mcminnville is a small town in the Rogue Valley of Oregon, United States. It was founded in 1885 by J.B. Slaughter and his wife, Anna Maria Slaughter, as a ranching community on the banks of the Willamette River. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century and began to incorporated as towns in 1907. By 1940, it had a population of 1,500 people and was designated as an agricultural center for the Rogue Valley region. After World War II, however, Mcminnville declined as its residents turned to more urban areas for employment opportunities. Its last resident died in 1984.
The town of Mcminnville was founded in 1876 by H.G. Stephenson and J.F. Quinn, both farmers from the area. The name comes from a post office that was established in the town in 1875. The first store opened in 1877, and the first school was built in 1880. In 1890, the community had a population of just 10 people. However, over time, Mcminnville grew rapidly due to its location near the Willamette River and its access to education and industry. A mill was built in 1903, and by 1920, it had become one of Oregon's leading manufacturers of flour products. By 1924, the town had a population of around 200 people. In 1941, Mcminnville became part of the newly formed Oregon Districts of World War II Provisional Authority under US President Franklin D Roosevelt as part of efforts to provide support for war-time industries throughout Oregon. The town experienced significant growth during World War II as workers relocated to wartime production sites across Oregon including Portland and Salem. After the war ended, however, unemployment began to increase as many factories closed down or shifted operations offshore; this led to increased social unrest within Mcminnville over what some saw as inequitable treatment by local businesses after the war." In 1951,Mcminnville incorporated as an autonomous city under statehood status; it has remained an independent municipality ever since. In 1984–1985,Mcminnville voters passed a resolution approving annexation by Bend County; this made Mcminnville one of Bend County's five municipalities specializing in economic development." Today,Mcminnville is home to several thriving businesses such as restaurants/cafes/bars/stores and small craft breweries; it also boasts a vibrant nightlife scene with numerous live music venues and dancefloors available year-round."
