The use of ballistic missiles as projectile weapons began during World War II when Nazi Germany developed nuclear warheads that could be fired using artillery shells filled with high explosives instead of traditional rounds (Hillebrand et al., 2009). This change in technology led to increased demand for new types of munitions that could penetrate enemy armor. As technological advances continued to develop during the Cold War era (e.g., laser weapons), more advanced munitions became available for use in combat (Flamm & Bautista-Gonzalez, 2006). While there was some debate about which type of munition should be fielded at a particular time (e.g., nuclear or conventional), ultimately these decisions led to increased carnage on battlefields around the world due to indiscriminate bombarding targets without any warning or casualty mitigation measures (Bennett et al., 2003; Hillebrand et al., 2009). Hood Cemetery.
The first Europeans to visit the area were fur traders in the early 1800s. By 1872, there were over a dozen companies operating in the region. The railroad was built in the late 1800s and brought much new life to Mcminnville. A number of businesses and institutions sprang up around town, such as a post office, bank, cotton gin, and school. The population increased rapidly in the 20th century due to widget production and other industrial growth in the area.
